It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

If Pique and Frenkie de Jong go they could do it. Pique is on ridiculous money behind the scenes bonuses etc Pique one of their best captains behind the scenes is ruining them wage wise. It’s why they are desperate for him to retire/leave. They already owe him a lot of money. If he goes that wage bill changes.

Spanish press are sly, they are using Piques break up as an excuse for unprofessional behaviour so they can push him to leave / retire its fucked up what they are trying to do but Barca are desperate to keep the image of one of the best in the world

Problem they have is that neither player wants to leave, and more importantly, both players are popular in the dressing room. The messages they are currently sending will have a negative impact on the players that are already there, which absolutely isn't a good thing.

In the end these guys have got water tight long term contracts and idealistic lifestyles in Barcelona. They aren't going to give those things up without a fight and they can't be forced out of the club. Tebas said last week "if Barcelona sell a player for 100 million euros they can spend 33 million" due to the fact they'd already gone above their salary cap in the season just gone.

Their situation isn't simple and isn't easily fixable. I think they're fucking deluded in chasing around after players like Lewandowski. They need to focus on what's already in the squad and get the best out of that. This desperation for new ready made stars is going to end with the whole club being liquidated.

I think that's far too risky personally and would massively hinder us. Bernardo is not only a fantastic footballer but he's also Mr 14km a game. It's rare to have such a blend of skill and graft.

If Bernardo goes the club would have to replace him IMO. They could still push for a replacement and get Bellingham next summer because of Gundogans contract IMO.

Final thing. With how condensed this season is we need depth now more than ever. It's not the time to be letting goes go and not replace them. Five subs and every midweek gap filled means there will always be chances for players to be rotated. We have to utilise it

It's a compelling argument you make. Personally I think in the end Barcelona don't get close to the valuation and the whole thing becomes moot!

If Bernardo still wants to go, we could do a lot worse than Frenkie + cash. I don't think it would take a massive amount either, but you'd imagine there'd be some changing hands given they've put their player in the shop window and we'd prefer to keep ours. Not to mention it would offset the discrepancy in wages. Come to think of it, I'm not even sure what he gets paid anymore because there are that many conflicting reports.

Anyway, long story short, if Bernardo is off then de Jong would be my first choice as a replacement, regardless of the financials.

Terrific player.

The sooner the outgoings are sorted the better so we can sort any replacements needed. I fear that if Bernardo does go, it will be near the end of the window, even if they sell FDJ soon

Yeah, I'd hope we set a deadline for any interested club because he's too important for us to replace with whatever scraps are left at the end of the summer window.

I wouldn't really want to go into next season with only Kev, Gundo and Phillips as our only real centre mid options, for numerous reasons.

These latest leaks with Barcelona saying “we don’t need to sell FDJ but Xavi prefers a player like Bernardo” is code for a swap lol. It all depends on how serious the club is in letting players go if Bernardo does want to go.

Haaland is filling a void, not replacing a current member. An Aguero void, that we carried for a year.

Alvarez is replacing Torres.

Sterling or Jesus leaving, leaves us short again. Jesus can possibly be worked around by being more flexible with what we have, depending on Alvarez hitting the ground running, and Palmer having a breakthrough. Don't think Pep wants that many ifs. Sterling would need replaced, he contributes too much for that to be shared by less bodies.

If only Jesus leaves then I really don’t see us signing another attacker. Jesus and Torres played 3500 minutes between them last season. Assuming he stays fit then Haaland alone should be able to cover that. Then you’ve got Alvarez and Palmer who could easily play 1500-2000 minutes between them. Grealish will probably play more too as he becomes more settled.

They should tell Mendes to leave Nunes where he is until Bernardo's future is solved. Think it's way more likely we'd do a deal like that at that level than anything like FDJ.

Thank you for being reasonable.

This suits Mendes as well. Agent fees etc are changing I think after this window with new rules could be the last window where he could get massive fees.

What was the fee banded about last summer for Silva? Maybe the club made Silva a promise we would let him go this season also for last season fee when no one took the offer on ….

Was it 60m?

Sportrac reports Bernardo on a basic salary of £150k/wk, Gundogan on £10k/wk less. I have read on this thread De Jong is on somewhere between £400-£500k/wk!!! No wonder Barca has financial difficulties and needs to sell him!

IF and its a BIG IF Barca raise the funds, it will take time coz they only got permission to sell their assets, need to get buyers etc . Lots of work to do, will take time

I think a lot also depends on what peps plans are for the formation and how we set up with Haaland in the side. One less spot that’s often been filled by Foden, kev, Bernardo at times. If we bring in Phillips, maybe with his energy and work rate we move to him and Rodri with Kev / Foden playing behind Haaland.

I don’t think it’s possible to replace Bernardo and would be sad to see him go, but maybe Haaland changes the way we set up and play and softens the blow if he does go.
