It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

Not so sure that's the main reason. The new cap won't apply to U21 players, which all the ones the club has recently sold are, so they could still be loaned.

It looks more like the club have changed their strategy and are going for a straight sale with a buy-back rather than a loan. The benefits have already been highlighted by a few, seems to be a good shift.
I think it makes sense to start doing this
The sell on amd buy back covers us amd we can then watch the players develop like Douglas luiz and angelino
These rules are being designed to stop us and Chelsea but long term it will strengthen us financially

Playing 3 at the back is feasible & we are likely to play 60 odd games so how do you know hes not going to pick up injuries as he is getting older. I know the one v Real was a twisted ankle but a major hamstring tear would be huge. The problem would be the big games. Also been stated that he wants to finish his career at Sheffield utd

Can’t see us playing 3 at the back that much. Walker isn’t going to move to Sheffield United anytime soon.

I haven't read the last 20 or 30 pages.

To me, the sales today mean one or two things.

1. Have we sailed too close in the FFP wind buying Grealish, Alvarez, Haaland Phillips, and a bollock has been dropped?

2. (More likely) We're going after the Iron in the Fire that @tolmie's hairdoo mentioned and we're giving up some talent to get funds for negotiating wriggle room?

Bellingham being bought this summer, and loaned back to Dortmund for the season???

Why would we ever buy Bellingham only to loan him back?

Ederson - Ortega - Carson
Walker - Cancelo
Dias - Laporte
Stones - Ake
Cucurella - Zinchenko
Rodri - Phillips
KDB - McAtee
Silva - Gundogan
Mahrez - Palmer
Foden - Grealish
Haaland - Alvarez

Yeah sounds right. You are including Ake, Zinch and Bernardo who are supposedly rumoured to leave, but I think are going nowhere, so that could well end up being our squad.

Light in attack, and room for one more NHG or HG player, and I fully expect us to fill that with a winger. Regardless of Palmer and Mcatee's inclusion.

Don't think it means any of them things, just think we've decided it's the best way forward for adademy product development, and generating general income.

According to pol on the athletic podcast the haaland deal ate into a lot of our budget for the summer and as a result we will operate with a one in one out scenario.

Makes sense why we closed the deal with Leeds the same time we agreed the fee with Arsenal for Jesus. I would imagine once Sterling is sold we will then begin talking to Brighton to try and get cucurella. I expect that to be the last major moves for this window

I can't help but feel its a little light but then I want Palmer and McAtee to be given their chance. Glad its Pep making these decisions and not me.

We also are at the financial year end tomorrow so if deals need to happen to offset 21/22 costs then they need to complete by tomorrow

I get the femling that the only you’re players we’re seeing realistic chansens of becoming first teamers are Mcatee and palmer (maybe Mbete).

I'll be honest I'm getting a bit concerned, squad was too small last season we limped over the line and went out of the FA and CL because of it. The defence was all over the place in the games against Madrid, Liverpool semi and the last few league games.

When I saw us linked with Cucurella I thought that was us bolstering our options because we'd seen that mistake being short at fullback.

Now it looks like Cucu in and Ake & Zinchenko out

We're making it smaller again up front (while improving the quality)

I get they don't want to keep players who want to leave, but you have to replace them in the same window after a certain point.

Why don’t we go and get Dembele from Barca? He’ll be a free transfer and by the looks of it is getting over is his injury woes. He’d be the perfect Sterling replacement and future Mahrez replacement as well.
