It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

This is a myth. He works perfectly well at right back. The issue is, is that he isn’t Walker.

For about 10-15 games in a season, we need defensive full backs. This is where Walker should play.

The rest, Cancelo can play.

He looks better at left back as he’s replacing either Mendy or Zinchenko, who aren’t in Walker’s league.
Agreed. He looks just as good on either flank when he is on his game. He just wasn't very much late in the season coz he for burned out. We need to keep him fresh and rotated.

We just got to hope Ake doesn't leave. We say we have 4 centre backs but Stones is injury prone how much I hate to say that as in my opinion he's our best central defender.

He's going to get an injury/knock that leaves us with 2 central defenders in Laporte and Dias. Hopefully Ake stays.

Otherwise we are extremely lite in that position.
Agreed he is our best CB. Too bad he has an injury history. I think we'd bring someone in if Ake goes.

Do you really think that’s true - Feels like more Noddy accounting and oversimplification from the Athletic- honestly do you really think a club with our turnover exists in such a hand to mouth manner. I don’t and I’m surprised the Athletic expect anyone to fall for such shit stirring nonsense.
I think we have a budget set for transfers each summer yes. We don’t have a bottomless pit of money we want to be a sustainable business.

Numerous journalists (many close to city such as Blackburn, pol and gaughan) have said despite the low buy out clause the haaland deal still is a very expensive one to get done due to agent fees and payments to his family etc.

So no it wouldn’t surprise me if the majority of our budget went on signing an already established global superstar meaning now we have to sell to further invest in the squad.

Maybe I’m being simplistic but it just seems to be consistent with the messaging we are getting from many in the media

I'll be honest I'm getting a bit concerned, squad was too small last season we limped over the line and went out of the FA and CL because of it. The defence was all over the place in the games against Madrid, Liverpool semi and the last few league games.

When I saw us linked with Cucurella I thought that was us bolstering our options because we'd seen that mistake being short at fullback.

Now it looks like Cucu in and Ake & Zinchenko out

We're making it smaller again up front (while improving the quality)

I get they don't want to keep players who want to leave, but you have to replace them in the same window after a certain point.
zero indication zinchenko is out

Occam’s razor my friend. The correct explanation is usually the simplest one. You’re probably right. One in one out due to Haaland impact on budget.

Still, I’d like to think otherwise and that there’s a surprise on the way.

Ederson - Ortega - Carson
Walker - Cancelo
Dias - Laporte
Stones - Ake
Cucurella - Zinchenko
Rodri - Phillips
KDB - McAtee
Silva - Gundogan
Mahrez - Palmer
Foden - Grealish
Haaland - Alvarez

Every team in the league would kill to have a squad like that. I really don’t understand the flapping from some on here.

We offered Sterling a new contract to stay and wanted Jesus to stay also so your theory doesn’t add up

It's not like we sit on massive profits every year. We have a large turnover, but we also have huge outgoings.

According to Swiss Ramble, our wages+transfer amortisation in the last accounts was £500m, and Haaland's basic salary + fees will be something like £38m a year over five years.

That's nearly our entire revenue for a year.

We pay good wages because we have high revenue, and we keep the squad smaller than most. We could have four or five more average players hanging around like Liverpool, but then we'd be the ones telling de Bruyne we couldn't pay a big new contract, rather than Liverpool and Salah.

Mate, I don't mean this as a personal attack, but people really need to learn the correct application of Occam's Razor. It was never intended for conclusive deduction.

It's a heuristic.

In journalism, it stinks of laziness and a lack of research and investigative rigour.

Sorry...pet peeve!

Put far more succinctly then I ever could. Thank you for saying what I was trying to say!

So can we now conclude that city are broke and it’s time to saddle the club with debt? Long term loan option from Abu Dhabi independent bank, totally independent from the banks CEO Mansour the 2nd. Again totally unrelated to our owner…totally.

How city being in debt is good for Liverpool’s title challenge :-)

Yeah I do. Do you think the agent and father got nothing? Anyway we it will come out when agent fees a reports later in the year..
Do you think agents and others (not to mention the players signing on fees) get nothing from other transfers? Just because the media add it to Haalands fee doesn't mean we have to buy into it when they don't do it for anyone else.
