It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

This 100% - things like this happen especially in World Cup years. Sterling, Jesus and Ake need to play more

Does anyone actually think Sterling needs to play more to get into the England team?

He’s scored or assisted a goal a game for England since the 2018 World Cup.

Hes coming off the back of a tournament when he was nominated for player of the tournament and was the only aengland player to score decisive goals early on.

And Southgate has said that he’s definitely starting.

Jesus and Aké maybe, Sterling? Not a chance the WC is motivating him.

Hes said it 100 times, he just wants to be somewhere he’ll play every week, just believe him instead of jumping through hoops to invent new reasons.

The last part is spot on. When Gundo scored the winner against Villa, Sterling was saying something to him about playing time. He has obviously got a bee in his bonnet. From his perspective he was the main man and then reduced to impact player. His confidence was shot due to his form and he must know pep is frustrated with his finishing and overall play.

It’s time we part ways. The club, pep and sterling could have sorted it out these last 18 months but choose not too. He was never going to be a Komps or Sergio. Very good pro and I respect that.

you need to get a grip. you've described a scenario where both someone gets injured AND a highly rated youth player is still on the bench. we've won 100 points with mangala as 4th choice.
So with 1 injury, we have 2 CBs to play every game? That can't happen again. Back in 17/18 season we bought Laporte, so we had 5 CBs.

He hasn’t got a bee in his bonnet he just wants to play every week, it’s a perfectly reasonable thing to want to do, spend your career as a professional footballer playing as much football as possible. He’s been saying it for 18 months every single time someone asks him about his future and yet this forum chooses to ignore it and ask if he wants more money or has fallen out with Pep or whatever other nonsense has been spouted.

I was talking about his versatility to get game time. With a new lb, Zin and Cancelo then he is not needed. We have 3 quality CB who will share the position. Unfortunately Ake game time is reduced. Just like sterling and Jesus I can’t see him being happy with that role.
We have needed four CB for CB positions reduced game time At Left back or RB for CB due to bringing in fullbacks is some what a red hearing

One injury to our CBs and we have Mbete as our 3rd CB. And you're happy with it. I've seen it all. Aké simply HAS TO BE REPLACED. Can't have another 19/20 season
I think the crux of this potential issue is two fold.
Firstly it could be a hell of a job to keep four very good/excellent centre backs happy with game time.
Secondly our perception of what we need is compounded by John Stones injury record.
My question is If we had three CB’s with very good fitness would we be happier with a lesser so called 4th choice than Ake ?

At the end of last season, Dias, Stones, Ake were injured - Laporte played through an injury that has necessitated surgery - and we played a 37 year old DM at CB. In 19/20 due to injuries, Garcia, Otamendi & Fernandinho played CB.

Fair enough if you don't want City to buy a replacement for Ake, but acting like it's some ridiculous scenario where CBs get injured is bizarre.

Why? What does the price have to do with it. Only the ability matters. If we need to replace Ake the replacement has to be as good.

don't worry about it..

We still bought Laporte in that January so you’re really only advocating we can go 6 months without replacing Aké.

We also can’t pretend that Liverpool were the same side they are now in 2017/18 - they only got Van Dijk in the January and Alisson in the next summer and that’s when their defence stopped being a joke.

We are up against mich tougher opposition than we were in August 2017.

We saw how relying on 3 CBs can fuck us when Kompany left, and Liverpool saw it the season after when they went into the season with 3 CBs and scraped 4th.

I’d be very surprised if the club made the same mistake again, more likely they’ll get someone like Pau Torres with his €50m buyout if Aké leaves.

I am advocating to replace Ake, just to be clear. But I don't think you need to replace him with a 40m+ player is all

Clubs will know City got cash so they’ll bump up the prices. And what top level cb would accept a 4th choice role before a World Cup?

Mbete isn’t ready.

It could be a good opportunity for the club to target a market we don’t usually get to go for, the hidden gem or 18/19 year old prospect who’s about to burst onto the scene instead of going after them 18 months later when they cost 5x as much.

The scouting department knows who all these players that clubs like Leicester get, we just can’t buy them because we usually need instant performers.

I’m fairly indifferent about Sterling and Jesus leaving. I like both, I think they bring a lot to the side (despite Sterling’s dogshit 24 months of form), and I’d happily see them stay. But sentimentality aside I’m not too shaken up by their departures.

Ake on the other hand, I’d be gutted. He’s a good centre half, a reliable makeshift left back, seemingly a great lad and he came off the back end of last season glowing and ready to fight for his XI spot.

I think the World Cup is just an issue that can’t be ignored for players whose spot in the national XI isn’t guaranteed. Not least when you’re subject to Pep Roulette each week.

I hope he stays.
