Ake did well last season but since his arrival he has been unavailable with injuries for a large amount of time.

If we could get 50m for him, it would be great business , for me we overpaid for him and he has not justified that fee.

Unless we try and get an older defender in, someone at back end of career who wants a nice pay day whilst not expecting to play too many games, but great experience. Sure there will be a few about.

The amount of games we play and injury record of our first choice CB's, I think we need a top quality replacement if Ake leaves.

They might be similar in some aspects but Palmer is not a clone of Mahrez, he will offer different things and vice versa.

I do agree that we'll lack pace but what can we do if Sterling has his heart set on leaving? We could replace him with a similar profile of player however we've clearly focused our attention on bringing in a left back, defensive midfielder and a striker which were more pressing issues this summer.

We don't tend to rush in to signing direct replacements, if the lack of pace severely hinders us next season then I'm sure we'll address it as soon as possible with the right player.

I disagree. Assuming we get Cucurella and Phillips then it bolsters our squad and would allow others to cover in an emergency - people like Rodders, Phillips, Walker could all fill in if required. I just think it’s pretty much impossible to keep 4 top drawer international defenders happy, hence why even though Ake isn’t unhappy he’s still keen on a potential switch to Chelsea as he would be getting guaranteed more game time.

Not so sre, Stones will probably miss 10 plus games with injury and let's not forget a world cup in the middle of the season, next season is going to be a long hard slog for any player involved in that, injuries, fatigue will play a huge part in the new year and run in.

I think a new system is a given. It’s the potential for injuries to wipe out the team quickly that is concern. We already had the smallest squad in the PL.

We can get away with Jesus and Sterling but anyone else going must be replaced and that’s assuming Cucurella comes.

Agree with this. If we get Cucurella we have plenty of options at the back whether it's staying with a 4-3-3 or reverting to a 3-5-2. Lots of versatility with the players we have at the back.

and McAtee. But even if Cucurella comes that’s a squad of 20 which is tiny these days particularly for a squad going for 4 competitions and the World Cup in the middle. We would still need a couple more defenders as a bare minimum If Zin and Ake were sold.

We have versatile players yes but there is no need for us to be going into a season like this thinking about which midfielders could perhaps play as a defender for a bit.

At what point do numbers outweigh quality? We would be going into every match fearing one injury in a season crammed with games. How many times did Pep complain we only had 14.5 fit players last season and it cost us in the end and that was in a season when we went out of the FA Cup early and had a good injury record. If we don’t replace the squad is even smaller. It would be “a madness“ as City Xtra says.

I can only think we will replace or refuse any additional departures.

personally I’d like to see a centre back, a right back and a winger as well
But doesn’t look likely
At the same time I would like to see palmer and mcatee get games

The offense I find with being referred to as mr Southgate!
We need to keep Ake and zinchenko for the five at the back and bring Fernandinho back for the three defensive midfielders
