It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

Surely there comes a point where it stops becoming about 'pay what we value him at' and they're sold? What's the point? You have to try keep some players and hold them to their contract at least. Unsure why we seem comfortable on letting so many go, I get Raheem, I get Jesus, but get a replacement in as well. I don't get any other potential exits, like Aké, or Bernardo.

Personally reckon that if Pep decided to start Palmer regularly from the beginning of the season he'd probably end up going to the world cup. I really, really rate him. Obviously Pep won't start him week in, week out, but I do think he'll be used.
I know the policy has been to buy players already proven at PL level but continuing to trust certain players when out of form or simply not doing the business can be wasteful.

Is Pep simply protecting younger players or is he refusing to give them the same chances so called bought players receive?

Yeah, Pep really fucked up with his approach to Foden. Such a shame he ended up at Bury.

Forcing them to stay is not ideal either, more likely the player will be unhappy if they feel the club imprisoned them from going out. It will leads to drop for their performance and in the end fans will criticize the player and the club for forcing that said player to stay.

Bernardo Silva probably will not have the best performance of his life last season if he feels the club trying to hold him out from going. It is because circumstances that he didn't get his move last year and he didn't blame our club for it that's the key.

Not so sre, Stones will probably miss 10 plus games with injury and let's not forget a world cup in the middle of the season, next season is going to be a long hard slog for any player involved in that, injuries, fatigue will play a huge part in the new year and run in.
Still think my original point stands, that if we could get an older head, someone of the ilk of what Demichellis was to us in the day, then that’d be the preferred option.

Was just about to post something similar. I don't think there's any chance we will leave ourselves worse off in terms of squad depth/numbers than we had last season. Can see Zinchenko and Ake staying, but if not we will surely replace them.
Our biggest problem over the years in the transfer windows has been our inability to shift the outgoing players to create the gaps for our potential incomings, at least we’ve finally got to the point where we are opening spots now so that it frees us up for when we see a player we want.

I have faith.

Not suggesting he does not recognize special talent RE Foden simply that he seems to tolerate his bought players loss of form yet not so with Academy graduates who are usually given a 5 min slot in an already won game. Am I wrong?

People overrate Mbete alot.

He didn't even stand out for the EDS last season. He was good, but not a standout.

He needs a couple of years on loan before he gets a chance here.
I know he had come back from an injury but I would put quite a few ahead of him on last year’s showing. THB and Callum Doyle for certain and maybe even Finley Burns. Though he is a natural left sided CB so will always be a demand.
Big year for him coming up, needs a loan and needs to play regularly to make up for lost time. Good championship side or even somewhere like Sheffield Wednesday would be ideal

I think he knows what he’s doing to be honest

I think the crux of this potential issue is two fold.
Firstly it could be a hell of a job to keep four very good/excellent centre backs happy with game time.
Secondly our perception of what we need is compounded by John Stones injury record.
My question is If we had three CB’s with very good fitness would we be happier with a lesser so called 4th choice than Ake ?
Is it also a question that Ake was injured when we needed him most after an almost spotless injury record at Bournemouth. All players can potentially get injured I get that, but doesn't it defeat the object.
If it was mainly injury issues would selling both Stones & Ake be a better solution & buying a quality defender who can stay fit.
