Not necessarily. Maybe we know Laporte, or one of our other CBs, is likely to move on in the near future and we're covering that eventuality.

I feel that Sam means that City want a big name but there are no big deals ongoing, so they're being practical and putting the feelers for more easily achievable deals just in case. We want a big name, but we're still looking into more pragmatic options for the time being. Probably quite important that Chelsea haven't actually paid the money yet, lol.
