Ederson was not good either, pinging passes out of touch left right and centre and a nice assist for their 3rd. If Ortega turns out to be good with his feet I can see him being number 1 later on this season. Ederson was mediocre last season and IMO, he's not good enough if his passing is not there. Nearly gave away a pen as well 2nd half.
Things is, the Ederson lovers go on about what he brings to the team...his range of passing etc etc, well, his passing is going backwards and he brings very little in terms of making the big saves in the big games. Never saves a penalty either.

Judging him on this game alone, Ederson did well. One fantastic take from a cross, and for the not given ‘penalty’ shout he won the ball cleanly. No chance for the actual penalty or the other goals. His passing was off today but it is still preseason, however he is always available and takes a lot of pressure off the defenders - especially Ake who doesn’t look as comfortable on the ball as the rest.
 
Ok, we've lost the English Super Duper Bestest Team Shield.
We did that last year but we got over it eventually.

No point reading too much into that as it will have little bearing on how the season pans out.

Got better as the game went on, probably as the scousers were happy to play counter attack and we got our game going a little, but definitely looked short of fitness compared to Liverpool which maybe you’d expect and some very rusty passing at times. The rhythm will come back fairly soon I imagine.

The positive I’ll take is that despite being nowhere near our best we still created a lot of very good chances.

I think he’s more than good enough. Doesn’t have Laporte’s range of passing but is less error prone and calmer under pressure
 
This game showed why Laporte's going to be our main (L)CB again. He's very important to our build-up play. Ake is lacking in that regard, Dias is better than Ake, but not Laporte better. It'll be Laporte and one from Dias and Stones at CB.

Why didn't Stones play any minutes? Pep isn't happy with him?
 
Definitely need a new left back now - it's getting embarrassing. Defensive lapses let us down badly. 2 friendlies do not make a serious pre-season. Just as well opening few league fixtures aren't too difficult - need that time to integrate Haaland and Alverez into the squad. Gealish really needs to step up now -too predictable.

Fowler, Howey, Weah, Wanchope, Corradi and papa Haaland all spring too my mind as dogshite debuts. I wouldn't say Erling was as bad as some as those ones personally.
 
Disappointing result against the kloppites. The performance was hot and cold.
We will get better, but due to the timing of the world cup, we need to hit the ground running starting next week.
