Is our squad stronger or weaker than last year?

Like it is right now and purely on numbers, weaker. No replacements for Zinchenko yet and how the hell do you replace a player who perfected playing at a position Pep invented for him. And almost nobody is even mentioning Raheem and the big hole he left behind. I know many people here will go for Palmer being that replacement, but I don't think so, not now not ever. So, I can only trust in Pep to come up with some 3.0 or is it 4.0 iteration of his tactical approach, beta version. CTID!

Letting McAtee go after promoting him to the fist team squad was the final straw. Great for the lad but he was an extra body for us.

Last year we went all out for Kane no plan b (title won)
Need a left back but got a feeling we wont get one
Hope I can put the same in brackets

I do but I'm concerned that the dippers have had a better transfer strategy and look stronger this year. Carvalho and Nunez is just what they needed whereas we've still got issues, no winger and no left back to fill the voids. Spurs and Arsenal will be no pushovers either, both have bought exceptionally well. Shame if we don't get a FB because we're the envy of the world right now with one of the best young strikers.

We have just lost 3 players with huge prem experience and know how to win titles, and all still in their prime in terms of playing years, and replaced with 2 players who without doubt have talent but no prem experience, and 1 player who played 1 season for Leeds, our bench looked light on Saturday in terms of players coming on to change a game
 
The same , but with some excellent signings who have something to prove , Pep has freshend the squad up, got rid of three players who spent more time on the bench than playing last season , we also have players like Palmer , McAtee and Wilson Esbarand with another years experience under their belts.
Would be surprised if "the same" do not collect a couple of more trophies this season despite missing out on the Community Shield , apparently this is now a bonafide achievement and a way of making a statement for the coming season , hilarious.

There will be no December peak this year for anyone. Sterling and Jesus will be big losses but a fit Haaland should more than compensate. Alvarez may struggle as may Palmer if he hangs around. Key to our season will be Grealish and Foden I think. Grealish had a mediocre first season and I though Phil was also a bit flat at times. Clearly we are short a full back but I expect that to be sorted out over the next couple of weeks. Overall I would say we are more or less even in terms of quality and strength.

Palmer "if he hangs around" he is like Foden a City fan who has been at the club since 7 years old and like Foden he will progress over the next couple of seasons , Palmer is'nt going anywhere.

Think Palmer became a City fan age 7 when he joined us. Still, you are very impressionable until then.

I think it’s weaker. We lost Sterling scoring even tho he didn’t play well. Jesus was playing very good in my eyes. I also think that he would actually scored much more this season but whatever. We lost pace, also we still didn’t get our LB. Now we only have Walker and Cancelo as Fullbacks. The names on the sheet are nice but the combos ain’t it. Need an LB + winger imo.
 
We have replaced two players who were never guaranteed starters with the best striker in the world in Haaland and one of the most exciting young prospects on the world stage in Alvarez.We have also brought in an International holding and very hungry midfielder in Philips to replace an ageing and well past his best Dinho.A more accomplished 2nd choice keeper has also arrived.


And there are still 4 weeks of the window open.....
 
I think the real question should be have our opponents got stronger or weaker? You could argue that with the exception of the Rags, they all have. Dippers, Spuds, Arse and Chelsea are trying - bless em!! Watching the Community Shield at the weekend and notwithstanding our lack of pre-season, I would like to see our pattern of play speed up a bit. Dippers are getting their team sharper and faster with some dynamic players (Diaz, Jota and Nunez). We don't really have that kind of dynamism, although Alvarez looks of that mould KDB and Foden to a certain extent. The answer to the original question will be apparent come April/May next year. ;)
 
Slight weaker 49 out of 100 i think.

Plus side
We freshened the squad
Bought no 9
Replaced ferna
We have got pep - may be like 09 barca who had 18/19 senior player and others are played from academy. May be finally our academy are ready to bring real talents of our level.

Minus side
No lb (till now)
Too many changes 3/4 new faces in a transfer window is a bit too much.
No proper depth like last year
Lost experienced player and bought alvarez and even haaland who are not that epl experienced.
Has to rely on palmer, mcatee and may be academy lb (i m excited though as our academy players will be geting chances)
Need a winger
Liverpool has strengthened as well.
