Well they wanted a consultant and while the inventor of German football turned out to be a subpar coach, he did fulfill his consultant mandate. They just didn't like what they heard I guess, but if they were just going to completely ignore him anyway for doing what they paid him to do (an "outside opinion" on what's wrong with the team) it's mystifying.

An utter moron phoned into 606 demanding to know why as a 'big club' they were struggling to sign elite players. Sutton pointed out that from an elite players perspective they weren't a big club any more because there was fuck all chance of them winning anything any time soon. The zebra panted loon wasn't having it and it turned out his question was in fact rhetorical because he already knew the answer which was that the glaziers wouldn't put their hands in their pockets to fund big transfers! Both Sutton and Savage tried again to explain when you are shit the very best players won't come to you but they gave up in the end.

Their fans are as clueless as their players, they are a match made in heaven, sorry I mean Billy Smart's circus.
 
Just watched the highlights and I don’t want to go too far, as it can’t be easy playing for that shower of shite, but it was striking how much Martinez looked like a U16 player being thrown in to a senior match.
