Frenkie de Jong

A Bernardo-de Jong swap at this point is just way too obvious

City don't go for players who reject them. The only exception is Laporte because he apologized and we happened to need a left footed center back.

Usually City only go after players who want them and only them.

Also De Jong's salary is higher than KDB/ Haaland so it won't make sense.

Laporté's situation was primarily because he was injured & Bilbao needed him during a difficult season for them, so he felt obligated as they gave him his shot at the big time.

He also said he needed another 1-2 years to develop & then he thought he'd be ready for the PL, so if we could wait & pay the fee Bilbao wanted, he'd come

We waited, & he came 18 months later for £58m IIRC.

I think someone showed the other day his wages is actually €220k PW and nothing like was reported. Kev is on £330k or something along those lines I believe.

His weekly salary is actually €560,000 a/week.

It was reduced "temporarily" due to covid with his consent that he would get all of it after covid.

And there in is the problem.. Barca now know they can't pay him astronomical wages and want him to reduce his salary or get lost. He refuses because he's under contract.

Problem is what is what.

Is that net or gross? Which taxes are counted? Does it include likely appearance money? How big are the Goal / assist / win / CL / trophy bonuses? Other contractual payments? Pension? Image rights? Agents fees? Housing, other benefits?

Could easily be Barca payed out 500k+ pw to him in a particular financial year, but after tax weekly basic, excluding bonuses, his 'salary' could be 220k. Or less.

De jong was desperate to come to us at the beginning of the summer. Until we said we weren’t interested.

I think he's a terrific player but even aside from the money, and his recent form being a bit patchy, I don't think he's a fit. KDB has the role as midfield ball carrier.

With gundo and Bernie gone in a year I can see a place for him. But I don’t think we will go for him. Im guessing we’re waiting for Jude.

My worry would be if we hang on to him this season with an agreement to let him go in ² months time we will also potentailly lose Gundo and Kev will be 12 months older, you cant replace both in one window and keep the same standards.
