Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Our stadium is better than most, but go to Spurs new stadium (not as an away fan) and you'll soon realise our stadium is very last-generation now. We could be so much better.

That’s because it is last generation compared with Spurs’ - 20 years older in fact. Every new stadium will be better than the last one built. However, ours is streets ahead of most - especially those that haven’t been built from scratch & are just modernised “Maine Roads” or simply just red rat infested swamps

Yes, absolutely agree, going to Villa is like going back 100 years, Old Toilet is a cramped dump, in many respects we have a cracking stadium but we built a new South stand in the last few years and missed the opportunity to bring one end of the stadium up to the latest stadium quality. We can't miss the opportunity for the North Stand expansion.

Spurs stadium is one of the loudest I've ever been in. It may be the position of the away fans but it feels like you are surrounded by a wall of noise. And that South Stand is really impressive.

Still, it's in an absolute toilet of a place with shit transport links and Spurs play there, so you can't have everything.

My mate and I who regularly attend games took another friend and his son Saturday, it was their first time at the Etihad and they were blown away. The dad (a Reading season ticket holder) said it’s the best ground he’s ever been to. The facilities and everything they were amazed with. His son is a city fan and is an example of kids now growing up wanting to support City was just how I was when I first went to Maine Road.

I think we don’t have much to complain about. We do most things right! The stadium is beautiful, all stadiums can be slightly improved yes but ours is the best ;)
Some of us miserable gits like to moan about the transport links, the crap food, and long queues for beer (all valid complaints) but I think it is generally a fantastic stadium for families and children and it makes more sense in the long-term to attract these fans for the future. The feedback I get from neutrals is they think the Etihad is fantastic compared to other stadiums. I also think our atmosphere is as good as anywhere when we get up for a match. Anfield was like a library when they were struggling on Monday night.

I agree 100 per cent with this. It really was rocking when they beat us last season. Hugely impressive and much noisier than White Hart Lane whatever anyone says. I have been in noisier grounds abroad though like Aris, Poznan, and Seville but not the tourist spots like the Camp Nou or Allianz Arena.

It's also in the CCZ, ULEZ, LEZ and the TFZ (trophy free zone)

The huge stand behind the goal has definitely helped to improve the atmosphere at the new Spurs stadium. The first season wasn't that good as Spurs fans were getting used to the new stadium. Now the fans are settled in, the atmosphere is much better.

Let's be honest, as a rule City fans are more vocal than Spurs fans and have more chants. So you can imagine if a similar stand in size and depth, single or double tiered was built where the NS is now, what the atmosphere would be like at the Etihad.

Did the Stadium Tour today with the Grandkids, would recommend it. The guide said we are going to develop the North Stand to get the 60,000 seat capacity so we can host finals etc, he mentioned the Spurs stand as a possible option, but this would involve extensive development.

That’s a very good video. In fact, that’s the best fan video I’ve ever seen.

I found their views on the pre-match stuff very honest and do agree with them; “this will be the worst pre-match experience of the season, I hated it, 2 out of 10”.

The reasons he gives for that are the main reasons I think we lost the Super League Magic Weekend to St James’ Park in Newcastle and exactly why I don’t like it: Too far out of the city centre, nowhere near enough pubs around the ground (to the point that it pisses me off), feels like a kids theme park, aimed at kids even though about 90% of the people attending the game are adults.

City Square is bobbins if you’re not a six year old first time visitor, and could be miles better than it is. I make an effort to avoid it and would even rather just stand around on a random street somewhere close to the stadium doing absolutely nothing than go to City Sq.

All of the positives they give about the atmosphere and our fans being decent people are nice of them n’all. Bournemouth seem a sound bunch, and these lads are knowledgable and not a hint of bitterness.

Most away fans I’ve spoken to can’t believe the legroom and the size of the concourses at our place compared to other grounds they go to

Post match City Square is truly awful and it's getting worse, a lot worse. I used to meet up with my two brothers at Summerbees, have a drink, watch the screens, the goals, the post match interview and match analysis.

Now that's all gone.

You can still just about get a drink at Summerbees but nothing else, now we have a horrendously loud shit band belting out crap at such a volume you can't hold a conversation with the person next to you.

How many real away fans go to a fucking fanzone? They claimed the city-centre is too far away so they didn't like the pre-match atmosphere. City square is geared up for children and daytrippers. Just 20 minutes walk away they could be drinking in the pubs of one of Europe's biggest party cities where virtually all the City fans drink pre-match. I sincerely hope they are not representative of Bournemouth's usual away support.

They went there because away fans aren’t allocated an away pub near the ground, because even home fans have a pitiful amount of pubs around the ground.

Those lads aren’t getting in anywhere decent in Town with Bournemouth shirts on so fans like that are stumped. They have to just get down to the Etihad and in the ground really.

I have met and drunk with plenty of away fans before and after matches all over the Northern Quarter. You are right about shirts though because lots of pubs don't even let people in with City shirts! The away fans seem to always go in Wetherspoons in Pic but that's the worst pub in town. I agree there are not many decent pubs near the ground but Ancoats is great these days and that is close enough.
When I go to away matches I always like to drink in the town-centres and meet the home fans but you can't wear team shirts to do that. I agree that the pre-match set-up at City is cheesy (even face-painting!) but I think it is really for the kids and families. I thought their video was fair but to come all the way from Bournemouth and not to go into central Manchester to soak up the pre-match atmosphere is a bit daft. Bournemouth is a great place to visit but there is only one home fans only pub near the ground.
