Newcastle United (A) | Post Match thread

Yeah, blahhhh, whatever. We need to be beating teams like Newcastle. Did well to get a draw and at least we're not United. Roll on next game.

Oh yeah. Foden was diabolical and can't for the life of me understand why Pep never used any subs. I'm sure Alvarez would have injected some speed and skill up front.
I dunno. I have wondered if Haaland was the right player for our style. I'm more inclined to think that Alvarez is the man we need (another Sergio), and not Erling. Sure he's an amazing goal scorer and got 3 already, but is he 100% suited to City playing style ? I don't think so.

Anyway, a game to forget and move on. Time for another beer and chill for a few hours.

Triper talks well to be fair
Unfortunately some blues can read Trippiers mind and have stated he intended to hurt/injure. Even though kev had his arm around him not but 30 seconds after the incident.

That or they're a tad biased like:-)

Too many comments pointing the finger at VAR and the ref. We let ourselves down and I hope we address that tragic defence sooner rather than later. Only reason we weren’t exposed in the previous two games is because the opposition didn’t have the balls to play football. If I’m a team preparing to play City, I’m looking at that and thinking “the only we way we get a result is if we have a real go instead of sitting back”.

Lucky to get a point today. Ake, who we were close to selling a few weeks ago, looks our best defender at the minute. Hope he’s back next week.

Thought Newcastle were very good today although I’m not sure doing a lap of honour in August is necessarily the way forward.
They’ll still struggle against anyone that sits back, as more teams will do against them now.

Love the sky presenter suggesting Newcastle have shown everyone else how to beat us, as always happens!
The way to get a point against us for a few years now has been hope two or three players for City underperform and hope that your two or three best players have their best match of the season.

Sometimes it’s better to keep your gob shut the grealish comments at the title celebrations although funny have come back to bite us on the arse slightly, only adds to a team’s motivation..

At 0-1 we were looking in total control and if Foden squares that ball to Haaland to make it 0-2 (he had an open fucking net!). That changed the game as it gave them a massive boost not going 0-2 down, everything good for Newcastle and bad for us stemmed from that moment.

Simply not good enough from Foden.

Foden is not playing well. Twice he should have passed the ball but didn't even look up and opted to shoot.

If that was Sterling people would be going mental.

His all round play was poor too, not doing enough. When was the last time he had a motm performance?

The Boys in Blue didn’t give in, they fought to the end. The fans in Blue didn’t give in either, they cheered them on. Thank you lads, thank you fans, thank you City. You showed ‘em, you showed ‘em all. You showed character and perseverance. Well done.

Sorry John Boy, lack of game time showed I guess.

Typical early season crazy game, the early goal put a fair few of our players in exhibition mode and we got what we deserved when we found ourselves trailing. Showed the mettle of champions to come back like that.

A point gained.

Sloppy sloppy sloppy

Passing was off all day.

Letting Newcastle run at us was a disaster.

Defence was all over the place. Midfield left Rodri on his own.

Positives:

Showed a lot of character to get back into the game. Haaland on the score sheet again.

Annoying:

That **** Hinch & Pep refusing to sub when players looked knackered.

Overall, early season form. Played a good Newcastle who will get points of alot of the top teams.

Improvements needed.
Don’t think any City player looked knackered and thought we looked well capable of winning it once we’d equalised.

The only worry I had was Walker. He’s nothing like good enough for that midfield role and his legs looked like they’d gone. Even Willock ran away from him in the first half and his header set them away for their second.

They seem to have one game plan - get the ball to Maximan and although Walker could cope with his speed he couldn’t cope with his skill. He was getting frustrated and I was praying he didn’t have one of his brain farts.

I think the barcode’s defence was poor but for most of the game we didn’t trouble them enough.

For much of the game they simply worked harder than us and seemed more up for it.

We need to utilise Haaland much more. Too many players taking long shots from 20 yards out or going for goal themselves.

Newcastle really tried to strangle us without ball possession.. I don't think I've ever seen any other team do that to us besides Liverpool and Chelsea where for 5 minutes we barely get a touch in.

But we showed amazing composure to get back into it at 3-1 down.

Will take the point. Obviously some players are still rusty.

Going by previous seasons we always draw/ lose a game early and then start putting quality runs together. Fingers crossed for the same.
