RagThe team is ageing - he was never going to leave while there were trophies to be absorbed by the best squad any English club has ever assembled, hence him extending. He didn’t want anybody else to match or eclipse what he’s done with it.
Now United will be getting multibillionaire investment, the rest of the league can also buy very good players and maybe even the culmination and sanctions of the PL FFP investigation mean it’s a good time to walk away for him.

This confirms it...you're on here to wind up the City fansI see him, Soriano and Txiki back at Barcelona within 18 months.
Nice oneOr perhaps even sooner - next week even?
Cheers for the laughs though. Off to the protests tomorrow night?
Appropriate name for a raggy, fading into the oblivion.I see him, Soriano and Txiki back at Barcelona within 18 months.
I have thought that Pep is off since he said he's waiting until after the world cup to decide. It would be out of character for such a well-run organisation to hang around waiting and hoping and then have six months to find a new manager. And I think Pep has enough respect for Soriano and Txiki not to put them in that position.
If that's right, I could see us trying a new approach. Perhaps a situation where Luis Enrique, who knows our execs and some of our players, resigns after the world cup and comes to work alongside Pep and the players for 6 months thus ensuring continuity and a seamless transition.
Wouldn't make any sense to let players go considering they couldn't be given any gametime guarantees and the fact that we made even more signings for Pep. It would be a huge loss for our project and I don't think it'll come to that. I'm sure Pep would have said he's leaving towards end of season if that was the case.
I don't think Pep makes guarantees for anyone.
I'd happily have him manage City forever, but I think there's a few signs it might be nearing the time for him to move on.Agree bet the people at our club don’t know if he is going to sign or not. Last time he signed his new contract it was around 20th November and that’s when this World Cup will start that’s when pep said he will sit down and look at it..

This summer we had 3 players who could have stayed choosing to move on, Bernardo is likely to push for a move away again, I don't think Stones+Laporte+Dias+Aké will work as a 4 for much longer, 1 or 2 of them will feel they can start every week, KDB, Walker, Mahrez, Gundogan are all the wrong side of 30.
I said when Pep arrived I hoped he would do 8 years, that's the amount of time Cruyff was manager at Barcelona and laid the foundations for everything that came after.
That would take him to July 2024, and I think that is shaping up to be a natural ending point.
Fair enough but I cannot see a reason as to why he wouldn't sign a new deal. Unless he's just wanting to call it a day for a while.I don't think Pep makes guarantees for anyone.
I am sure the club know exactly what his intentions are.Would like him to sign a new contract and if he feels it’s time to go go half way through it so there is no speculation just after season 23/24 only thing I’d want though is let the club know his intentions, so we can plan look for a new manager..
You could also look at him letting key players move on, while throwing a Haaland shaped grenade into the middle of his control based team, is a sign that he's trying to refresh things for himself.I'd happily have him manage City forever, but I think there's a few signs it might be nearing the time for him to move on.

23Is his current contract up summer 23 or 24?
