Chelsea-Liverpool, United-Leeds, Brighton-Palace all off, rest of the games on (pg 128)

She gave us 70 years.

The least the public can do is give up a weekend of football.

I don't think many can quite comprehend what a huge moment in time this is, irrespective of your own viewpoint.

It's bigger than any sport, stuff our great grandchildren will be reading about in school 100 years from now.

Certainly not did City fuck up again at home to Spurs this weekend.

Only this.

Presuming there will be a minute silence at the dortmund game.
Liverpool also at home midweek...

I never get this - she gave us 70 years. To me she just seemed to live a life of extreme privilege in opulent surroundings. Don't think her and her family even know what the fuel cap is?

Whilst I don’t agree with all your sentiments (oh and I am an ex serviceman) so hardly a raving commie, I just cannot see justification for cancelling all football games when a plethora of other sporting events are carrying on. Either the etiquette is Sports are stood down for the duration of the state mourning period, or they aren’t.
Football seems to have been singled out for special treatment.

Sinclair being investigated for his comments by TalkSport. Sister station of Talk Radio where all the presenters believe you can say anything you like, obviously until it’s something they don’t like. Hypocrisy knows no bounds anymore and satire is no longer needed…….
The irony works both ways, those who enjoy cancelling people now trying to say Sinclair is entitled to an opinion and around we go.

As it always is.

I understand that some people don't like the royals and us being a monachist state, however this is what our country is and so the people have to accept this decision.

We are not just talking about a 96 year woman, we are talking about The Queen!
Queen Elizabeth II, the longest living British monarch!

This is major news, front page news, not just here but in every country around the World! Flags are half mast in the USA for example and they even had a minute silence in last night's NFL game and the US Open.

All you have to do is look at the huge crowds who are out in London, Windsor and Balmoral. The people who have sent their condolences, world leaders, people who are well known and who are and have been top of their profession.
No other person in the world would have received that level of response from people, no one! and just wait until it's her funeral.

I know we all love watching City and football, and this is an inconvenience for some, but an event like the Queen dying is unprecedented and will take preference in this country, and rightly so, and like it or not, everyone has to live with it.

It singled itself out.

The government has said it’s up to individuals and individual organisations and the Premier League and FA decided to cancel football.

The ECB have decided to continue with cricket tomorrow.

Any fingers of blame need to be pointed at the footballing authorities, not Westminster or the Palace.

I think Peter Crouch put it best

This extended mourning is ridiculous. Where organisations feel they have to bring stuff to an end in case they get ridiculed by the right wing media. People can mourn without everything stopping. People have booked hotels, paid for travel and now they are fucked financially which is utterly wrong.

We all mourn loved ones. We can have a day off on the funeral and people can choose how they use it. Either travelling for the funeral to London or watching it on the telly.

This blanket expectation means everyone has to change plans. Lose money. Miss important stuff, many while being respectful don’t share the desire to spend nearly two weeks doing it.

Will the CL games go ahead, as I know people who have booked to travel. This isn’t fair. I liked Liz, respected her and feel sorry she has died but there is no need for cancelling stuff. Celebrate her life, this isn’t the 15th century we cannot stop the world. No one did it for my mum, or my granny. or yours. Those who wouldn’t want to go to any event due to this have the choice not to, those who would want to, have no choice. And for me forced mourning isn’t mourning at all. It’s utter bollocks.

Ha ha having sat next to fuckers stinking of pot I wouldn’t relish some pissed up herbert slopping beer all over me!
I get soaked with beer more at the rugby than I do at gigs. But the worst thing is the constant moving to let people go to the bar for pint after pint.

Maybe I should edit my comment, it seems football FANS have been singled out. I haven’t blamed politicians or royals.

Are you saying we should cancel the football every time someone's granny dies?

Has it actually been confirmed yet that next weekend’s fixtures will also be postponed, or is there still a chance they could go ahead?

I would have liked the opportunity to pay my respects to the Queen and sing God Save The King with the majority of 54,000 other citizens/Cityzens.

Well I would have if I wasn’t abroad on holiday!

With the blanket coverage, mournful music and hushed tones, no one allowed to comment on pretty much any news thread on the BBC, Guardian etc etc it feels like we are in North Korea.

It’s not confirmed. Potentially they could see the reaction and how others sports are on going and decide to play them.
