TV Series

Thanks all, will stick with it and see if I can take it in as a whole.

That helps. Worth giving s3 a go?
Definitely.

It's interesting that I watched the first 2 series of Ozark before starting Breaking Bad.

Whilst I enjoyed both series, I think that BB and BCS are better than Ozark, so I had the benefit of seeing something that was good, followed by two series that, IMO, were even better.

Obviously, you have done this the other way around (as most people will have), so I can see why you may have some reservations, but as others have said, it's still a very good series.

State of Happiness, Series 2 is on BBC4 just now. A Norwegian series about the early days of the oil industry based in Stavanger. Sounds dry. It isn't, Fantastic young cast, well written and acted, part drama, part political thriller, crammed with 70's detail. Series 1 was very good. Series 2 if anything is better.
I saw the first series, it was excellent. Will be looking for this.

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but my enthusiasm for HotD is pretty low and I am not arsed about waiting and binging them when the season is done and even they I doubt I will rewatch, but the Rings of Power I am eager to see each week as for me it is more interesting and a more enjoyable watch.

Any feedback on The Man in the High Castle? I really like alternative history series if they're done well, and I'm a bit intrigued. Might even sign up to Amazon Prime just for that. And then cancel. (Not a lot else on there takes my fancy, to be honest).
Man in high castle is great, I loved it, well worth a watch

Thanks for that. The word you've typed looks like something between “great” and “twat”. Hmmm. That must needs be scanned.
Look, so if I understand it right (I'm a novice at all this) I can sign up to Amazon on trial, see the whole thing, and walk away scot free? Is this what all you guys are saying?

It's great my sossig fingers strike again ;-)

Anyone else find Ozark quite shit?

S1 was ok-ish. S2, pretty fucking terrible. Not sure whether to bother with the 3rd.
Same here. I felt that S1 was good, S2 was a trudge and I dropped not long after S3 started because I found the storyline so unbelievable that I became disillusioned.

I quite like outlandish tv, I’m generally pretty good at suspending disbelief, I’ve enjoyed watching all kinds of sci-fi & fantasy and provided the narrative follows it’s own principles it works fine.
Not everything needs to ring true to be entertaining, but if it isn’t sci-fi or fantasy, if the story being sold is supposed to relate to real life (even in an exaggerated fashion) and a scene has someone having their big toenail ripped out with a pair of pliers but they don’t limp afterwards, not even a little bit, and not a hint of an excuse for it (took an aspirin perhaps?) then both the actor and the director should be in a different line of work because IMO they have no respect for their storyline or their audience.

Others may feel different and, if they can get some fun out of it then fair play to them.
I tried sticking with it but I won’t give it the time of day now.

On the basis of your enthusiastic recommendation, I’ll give RoP a go then.
