I can only imagine they’re quite bad but not as bad as not doing it.

I'm no economist but I think the problem was that the returns on long-term gilts (used to partly fund govt. borrowing) were such that government borrowing could become unsustainable because of the cost of meeting those returns, hence the BoE stepping in.

If it's not been discussed already. Can anyone me what the impact and implications of the BOE buying government debt is ? What does that do ?

Could devalue the currency further.

Had they not done it, we’d have people losing their homes and pensions though.

its an agreement not the law. If Russian Forces invaded a NATO ally and we were being dragged into a shooting war I hardly think Truss would mobilize the armed forces but delay on giving a news conference because its party conference season and not the done thing?

QE generally isn't helpful when inflation is already on the rise.

It’s not traditional QE though as I understand it. I’m guessing it may have a similar impact on inflation but I don’t understand the mechanism that will cause this.

We need to get to November first. These tax cuts will be reversed by the weekend in all likelihood.
