I think the point is that if Labour had been in power for 12 years we'd have had the same corruption. Except Labour was in power for 12 years and we didn't.


I think Mrs Blair did buy two houses in Bristol. That got the Murdoch press twitching.

I’ve worked with countless people in my career who have been through Oxford or Cambridge (mostly the former). Some of them have been formidably intelligent, just off the scale clever and I admired them greatly. Most have been very industrious and quick, so it’s no surprise that they did well academically. Others have been very social and became good friends. But a couple have been clueless and incompetent. It’s a broad church, as Truss is proving.

Well said. I‘ve encountered plenty of Oxbridge graduates professionally who are deeply unimpressive intellectually.

We are just too stupid to understand anything.
They don’t think they’ve done anything wrong.
They don’t think they need to brass anything out.

I taught quite a few sixth-formers who went on to either Oxford or Cambridge.

What distinguished them all was an ability to think logically and laterally right there and then. And they were capable of spontaneous flourishes of originality both in their essays and in the arena of classroom debate.

They tended to be open-minded and empathic too, intellectually curious about ideas and theories that they did not necessarily identify with in any way.

Truss, of course, exhibits none of the above attributes.

It is possible for someone to be bright but so slavishly in thrall to a particular belief system that they are incapable of seeing the wood for the trees. So maybe that has something to do with it in her case, an inability to be comfortable with ambiguity.

But I really am struggling to comprehend how such a talentless, morally repellent mediocrity has got as far as she has.

we said this all along - he hid this because it predicted a car crash. Guess what? He crashed the fucking car !!! Never saw that coming eh?
 
Laughing at the idea that the political instability cited as a reason for the market response was not inherent to the act of writing - and submitting - a snide electoral suicide note.
