The Conservative Party

Overturn democracy? A few thousand blue rinse ladies down south chose who is PM.

I seem to remember the Tories moaning on & on about Union block votes, that was a bit more democratic than Gertrude from Tunbridge Wells having a major say.
But you have to remember that democracy doesn’t mean the same thing to them as it does to you and me.
Tories start from the basic point that they have a divine right to rule us whether voted for or not.
’Democracy’ to them is the the internal machinations of the Tory party- the squabbling, the in-fighting and blood-letting as long as only tories get a say.

Treasury chief secretary Chris Philp has been moved to the Cabinet Office following the sacking of Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng.

Hunt as chancelor ? God fucking help us

Hunt in No11 is basically an admission that the sensible boring types have stepped in to the madhouse to restore order.

The outlook now is LT will try to hang on wile the Hunt camp call all the shots holding a gun to her head.

The right wing press and members will go mental over this.
Yep, if Truss survives I suspect she will be a zombie PM.

Incredible. So basically Mrs Bean has sacked Kwarteng for doing what she told him to do !! You couldn’t make this up.

The conservative party clearly aren't in any fit state to govern. So many bridges have been burned internally that nobody is left who is fit to to take up any senior position in government.
I think the last few years have gone to show that we can't continue with a system where a PM stepping down leaves it down to a small bunch of idealogues to vote for a new PM. The tories have chopped and changed leader so many many times over recent years pulling the country in all kinds of directions. It's pretty clear that when someone as senior as PM is ousted it should automatically trigger a general election. Perhaps they'd take it a bit more seriously that way.

There is a bit of a purge in no 11 - Philp is being booted out too
Isn’t a purge (in this context) supposed to be a leader clearing out opponents and enemies?
This seems to be a purge of like -minded allies.
Makes as much sense as anything else she’s done so far, I suppose.

David Blaine spent 44 days in a glass box as a stunt

Kwasi Kwarteng spent 38 days as Chancellor of the Exchequer of the UK - was that also some kind of stunt?

I hope one condition is that JRM steps down too, he is a dangerous lunatic.
I get the sense that the loonatics have had there time - they have fcked up too much.

The big question, now the moderates are stepping in, is how do they react. They (loonies) have full support of the right wing press, and the membership. If they went all out internal war they could force another leadership contest and another loonatic would win. The only retaliation available to the moderates would be to abandon support in the HoC and the result would be a GE + electoral annihilation.

So wile I predict some serious internal strife (and open warfare on the front pages of the Mail / Express). They will have to get along somehow to the next GE.

That said I dont see LT surviving the next few weeks. I think she will have to go and then it will be frought on who and how to replace her.
