Liz Truss

They can do what they did with May.
Put someone forward.
No challenger to put to the membership so anointed without vote.
Didn’t that only happen because Leadsom stood aside, thereby negating the final need for membership annointment? I seem to recall Brady saying that the Gin and Jag belt considered that procedure to be undemocratic and so it would not be repeated.

She will get absolutely skewered by the press tomorrow - running out of the room like that, hardly taking any questions and trotting out the same nonsense about economic stability to the few questions she did take will piss the journos off no end.

Again, I simply can’t believe how bad that was, and I still for the life of me cannot accept that she is the PM. The blank look on her face, the inability to answer simple questions, to offer any defence of her actions, is just staggering. Spellbinding in fact.

She got a couple of questions she didn’t like and then bolted from the room, and she’s the one running the fucking country. It’s a complete and utter embarrassment.

If Tory MPs don’t get rid of her now, then the party will be finished, done for, end of story.
She went to Oxford though, mate.

This was earlier today but spot on. She has junked her growth plan so has nothing left. She can't go on.

I agree with Marr when he mentioned getting MPs who have some understanding of the position they are given. We are in shit street so at least have the humility to look at who has experience in the field and give the position to them no matter what side of the party they belong to rather than promoting the bottom of the barrel because they are your allies. We don't have the luxury of letting idiots learn on the job Yvette Cooper tore Braverman a new one yesterday it proved Suella has no idea what she is doing.

2 way hat can happen.

1st is that the MPs decide who they want. They put themselves forward and no one else does, or other withdraw. That is what happened with May.

2nd is if they can not agree and numerous want to stand and go to the members the 1922 can change the rules. They could just do away with members and have an MP elected PM. This assumes the 1922 would agree to do that.

On balance I think these options far more likely than another member vote. The LT campaign was the catalyst for the current mess. She basically told the rabid membership what they wanted to hear i.e. she would cut taxes and not give a F.

The thing is , as an MP , they probably are underpaid , What should happen , IMHO , is a half decent salary for an MP but a veto on ANY other job whilst in parliament.
A no brainer this. Give them a circa £100k PA wage, a fixed budget for staff and expenses. Ban all second jobs. Proper register of all lobbyists and lobbying activity. Sorted.

They get paid £85 grand .
There are kids in the academy who earn more .
So yes, underpaid
I'd rather you compare them to people in proper jobs mate.....like Nurses or care home staff or other people who actually work. Footballers are overpaid

She did.

My understanding and I'm happy to be corrected, is Charlie boy can only intervene if there is a constitutional issue.

How the Tory Party chooses their leader and Prime Minister is not a constitutional issue, it is entirely their affair and theirs alone.
Of course it's a constitutional issue, but we don't have a constitution. Unprecedented times, and not been done for a hundred years (George V and Baldwin), but it would not be unconstitutional for Charles to appoint someone with some hope of unifying the Tories rather than Truss's idiotic choice.
