We have the best manager in the world but why does he have to do these crazy tactics in big games, is it for fear of losing? But each time he does a crazy tactic we end up losing anyway so I don't understand it

Put in the post match thread yesterday but this has been common with Pep through out his career. Happend at Bayern alot in their champions league games and German cup games against opposition who were considered top teams, randomly would start playing 3 at the back instead of a normal back 4 that had been working well to try and out tactic the opposition. Apparently it started happening at the end of his Barca stint as well.

Seems to be his one weakness his overthinking.

That’s when you need a strong second in command to pull him to the side and say don’t do it

If we make it to the CL finals, I'd like Sheikh Mansoor to invite pep to Abu Dhabi to watch the match together and have his assistant take over so he doesn't overthinks at the final hurdle, i thought he must have given up that idea of looking for a novelty in crucial matches after Cl final but that urge is still there.

‘WE PLAYED WITH COURAGE’ SAYS GUARDIOLA

O yes Pep. We did. With 3 central defenders. Foden as wing back. KDB and Gundo behind Haaland. We did.
This. If you want to use some player as a wing-back, you should have bought left wing-back in the summer and you are not using Foden who is completely opposite to wing-back in terms of physicality and defensive mindset. He has different features. At the end of the day our tactics didn't work. The only left wing-back in our squad is unproven kid from Anderlecht ;)

At this moment we don't have ANY fullback that can actually defend, because Walker is injured and we have decided to downgrade from Zinchenko to Sergio Gomez who originally should have been Girona player.

For me our line-up should have been Ederson - Akanji - Dias - Laporte - Cancelo - Rodri - Bernardo - De Bruyne - Grealish - Haaland - Foden. Gundogan, Mahrez and Alvarez as a subs. Unfortunately I don't trust Ake in terms of his skills with the ball.

But right now it makes zero sense to analyse it, we cannot make that kind of mistakes again.

The paradox is that Cancelo who is right footed right-back, looks better as a left-back. Again and again and again.

Maybe every time we lose people decide it was crazy tactics, because they assume we should win forgetting the opposition have good coaches and tactics too, when we win it's Peps genius. Truth is when we play other very good teams, and like it or not liverpool are one despite their form and will be comfortably top 4, then close games are decided by fine margins. We weren't bad yesterday and could easily have won, Haaland had chances, we had 1 dissallowed.
Obviously Pep didn't get it right on the day but there was nothing crazy and mst thought we would win when they saw the teams.
You must of watched a different game then, he clearly changed what was working for us, due to playing Liverpool he set us up apprehensivly

You must of watched a different game to me then. He clearly changed what was working for us.... Joao right back? Phil Wing back? Kdb right wing? Had us playing with fear. Drilled into the players to fear Liverpool. So yes it was crazy tactics. Should be treated like any other league game. Play our best 11 in best positions.. Teams should fear us. Not other way around

The problem is that many teams right now are playing well. Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea etc. We need to be more consistent. In the last season we have scored a lot of goals from set pieces, right now I don't remember any goal from set piece apart from Haaland's goal against United, we have scored a little from long range shots as well, IMO we have become a little bit addicted to Haaland etc. Grealish's and Mahrez's form is also a problem, we have to demand from each of them 5-10 goals in the season but they are not delivering anything atm.
For the set pieces I think it is because Laporte and Stones played very little this season. They carry the most threat in set pieces.

Probably shouldn't have been brought on at all. Grealish would have been a better option.
He should start. Liverpool will never let us pass smoothly. Thus just let Jack run with the ball. Buy some freekicks and yellows. Flirt with that 50 years old right back. Then in the 2nd half bring Gundo on to get the goals. Any sensible manager will do so...

It's a shame we don't have one of those

Tbf we’re 4 points off the top already.

With Spurs & Chelsea breathing down our neck.

Pep’s fucked up a few times this season but yesterday was bordering on negligence. It was laughably bad from Pep.

We should be concerned, because if Haaland gets injured we’ll be in deep shit.
Lol, we won back to back tit!es with no striker, behave

You realize we were 5 points behind at this point last year right? You realize that we were behind Liverpool who is a much better team than Arsenal right? You realize that we have won 2 titles with false 9 right?

Literally there is one super clear example that contradicts everything you say. Literally one of the wors and most laughable post I've seen in a while.

We won the title in 20/21 and we didn't start playing until November. Maybe just chill out.

And if Haaland gets injured, there are 2 options

1 - The False 9 that won 2 titles.

2 - The small insignificant matter of the South American Player Of The Year sitting on our bench.

Love pep, absolutely love him, however there’s something about City in big games where we just shit the bed, don’t turn up.

Sunday was a perfect example there, aswell as countless other matches at anfield. Cl final, Cl knockout ties, FA cup semi finals. There’s been several winner takes all occasions where we just seem to come off second best.

Hard to disagree with that mate , being honest there’s been too many one off games where we’ve failed honestly don’t know why we have , most of these we’ve been in a run of form as well.

We have won more big games than lost the thing is when we lose a big game it’s analysed to death!

It doesn't even have to be a big game against a top team, take the villa game for example. We came close to fucking that game up luckily Pep introduced Gundo and we turned that around. I think the occasion tends to get to Pep sometimes and that's something he has to work on, still a very young manager so there's a lot of room for improvement - not necessarily with his managerial style but with his emotional attachment towards big games.

Pep probably has the best record in “big games” out of all the managers currently employed,

I feel sometimes on here posters just seem to feel we should win every game and not give any credit to the opposition. As that tactical video posted above highlights klopp surprised pep with his tactics and they have the quality of players to punish. No one shit the bed or over thought tactics etc. Liverpool just where better on the day. It happens they are also a very very good side especially at home.

Did pep get his tactics wrong first half? Yes he assumed Liveepool would play 4 2 4.

Did pep make the adjustment at halftime to rectify his error?
yes, he changed to our usual 4 2 3 1 shape

on another day that goal foden scores counts and everyone on here is saying what a genius pep is etc. Cancelo mistake probably cost us a point and the manager can’t be held accountable for a mistake made by a player.
