NZ are in the semi-finals

Afghanistan needs to score over 110 or win, then England needs to just beat Sri Lanka

I wonder if Afghanistan have an eye on 4th place to guarantee qualification next time? Need to win and hope Sri Lanka lose for that to happen. I'll take anything over 100 from here.

I'm sure they will do yes, they'll want to win this game. Plus it's Rashid Khan's "home ground" so he'll be bang up for this. I can't see them chasing that total, hopefully they do but their batting largely lets them down. They just need to stay in there initially, it's not a huge total so even a few poor overs won't see it rise to an unachievable total.

Just need the Afghans to whittle down that run rate - anything helps here.

Australia need to restrict Afghanistan to below 100.

106 will draw them level today, but obviously if England win they'll improve their NRR at least a little, so anything over 100 from Afghanistan here and it's curtains for Australia on the run rate.

They'd realistically need to restrict Afghanistan to 90 to stand a good chance of getting through with England winning tomorrow.

Provided it doesn’t rain (and I believe the forecast is good)

This isn't technically true, a close win will see our NRR fall. In an NRR situation you have to keep winning at that nett rate to retain it.

We don't necessarily improve our NRR with a win. It can come down as it's an average. But you're still right overall, they need a big win here to put pressure on us.

The ideal situation for England is bowling first and restricting them and then having a clear steer on when we need to get the runs by so we can play a balanced innings still. Chasing has been England's strength under Morgan but in this tournament we looked a lot better setting the target against NZ than we did chasing Afghanistan and Ireland.

let's not forget, Afghanistan could still beat the Aussies here

I’m not sure about that.
I thought a win improves NRR whatever but glad to be wrong.
Afghans going ok here :-)

Looks like we will just have to defeat Sri Lanka to reach the semis.

I worry about us against their spinners, particularly Hasaranga.
