Didn't go to that game but went to Highbury that season in the League cup midweek replay lost 1-0 penalty,it was packed out that night 58,000 crowd.
Yes, same here. Was in the Stretford End. 45 years ago, how time flies!
Yes i was there. Think only the stretford end was open so meant a small turn out. What stood out for me was the plod stood in crows nest in the stantions pointing out trouble makers( basically fans singing) so the snatch squad could turf them out. Didn’t the Futchers score in this game and soon after bought them both?I only vaguely remember this.
Does anyone remember going to this ?
City win 3-2 at Old Trafford – but not against Manchester United. Having drawn twice with Luton Town in the League Cup third round – 1-1 at Kenilworth Road and 0-0 in the replay at Maine Road – a neutral venue was arranged, though being held in Manchester, City had something of an advantage! It was worth the admission just to see City fans in the Stretford End, and the Blues progressed to the next round thanks to goals from Peter Barnes, Mike Channon and Brian Kidd in front of a gate of 13,,043.
Sure we also played Bury there too. I went v Luton but I’m sure I also went to watch us play Bury there?I remember us playing a 2nd replay vs Walsall around 1973 at the Swamp. The mullet haired Bay City roller fans were out in force that night (outside the ground) trying to ambush blues after the game.
there was more than the stretford end open to us,i was 12 and remember little of it but i know we were'nt just in the stretford end,i'm gonna phone my dad up tomorrow and ask him, hopefully he'll remember more than me,he's 82 though !Yes i was there. Yes, Gigg Lane had a restricted capacity so they switched it to the swamp.Sure we also played Bury there too. I went v Luton but I’m sure I also went to watch us play Bury there?
Milk Cup in ‘85? Wilf McGuinness came on to attend an injured player to the serenade of “He wore, he wore, he wore a silver nipple - he wore a silver nipple on the top of his head” from the Stockport Blues in the Paddock. Filthy night, in so many ways…Sure we also played Bury there too. I went v Luton but I’m sure I also went to watch us play Bury there?
Yeh, I was at that one as well.I remember us playing a 2nd replay vs Walsall around 1973 at the Swamp. The mullet haired Bay City roller fans were out in force that night (outside the ground) trying to ambush blues after the game.
Yep, remember that and lads wearing surgical masks to keep out the stink! On the Stretford End we were chanting : -
"2 nil down, 3-2 up, now we're going to win the cup" after taking the lead.
Plenty of magic marker graffiti too !
We did play Bury. They had the Stetford End I think.Sure we also played Bury there too. I went v Luton but I’m sure I also went to watch us play Bury there?
