England
England’s opening win was as impressive as we’ve seen from any team so far in this tournament. I know it was only Iran but they’re ranked top 20 in the world and many were predicting a dull game beforehand. Bellingham in the middle of the park made a huge difference and the Front 3 played really well together. Based on that opening match, I think only Mason Mount’s spot in the XI is up for grabs. We do have to bear in mind that this game is only 4 days after the last, if it were a club game we would expect rotation. A win here would pretty much see England through to the knockouts.

USA
Their match versus Wales was a game of 2 halves. They started really well, they were fast and aggressive and gave Wales next to no time on the ball but from the moment Weah scored they just sat back. In the 2nd half they were so negative and defensive and in the end they made a shocking mistake which gifted Wales a penalty. All that said, at least they still got a point and didn’t fall apart completely. I think they’ll come into this and try to take a draw from the outset. If I were them I wouldn’t start Josh Sargent, I think he’s terrible.

Don't remember Pulisic scoring. It was just Weah wasn't it?

Having failed to beat Wales, USA is in big trouble.

England is likely to beat USA on Friday, ensuring their passage into the knockout stage. Should this transpire, England will almost certainly field a lessor side when they play Wales - advantage Wales.

Would any player on the US squad - assuming he were eligible - have been selected into the England squad?

I think not.

USA's (arguably) best player can't make Chelsea's starting 11 and the second best player (Gio Reyna) is apparently injured/not at full fitness.

England looked fantastic against Iran.

USA looked mediocre against Wales.

England are likely to win by multiple goals against the USA.

Let’s be real though, say if England keep the same 11 for USA and win and then field a different side v Wales, you’re still looking at players like Grealish, Foden, Maddison, Wilson, Phillips, White, etc coming in. still far too good for wales, you would think.

And it’s unlikely England are going to take it easy on Wales or just play for a draw knowing they are through, because the players coming in will want to impress.

I thought Wales looked poor, I wouldn’t count on them beating Iran to be honest.

I think Page will make a couple of key changes. Moore will stay in and maybe Joe Allen will play a part. Ramsey and Bale may get a bit fitter too.

Cant see any change in the starting 11 and cant complain. Would love to see Foden for Mount who i think is invisible. Main hope is that Southgate approaches it in the same positive manner as versus Iran, with only Rice holding and plenty of support for the front 3.

Attack the yanks and we'll piss it

England is clearly far superior.

It's a grudge match for the US and I'd imagine the players will raise their game, but realistically it would take an England underperformance and a fair bit of luck for the US to get anything out of this. Then again, I'm sure German and Argentine fans felt the same

Spot on.Team Usa is the second youngest team and has some potential individuals but as a team they lack leadership and experience.Non would make it on city’s team that is far stretched . Maybe next cycle these young kids can improve as a team.

Flawed logic, I’m afraid.
Would any player in the Japan squad, or Saudi squad or Brentford squad have got in to the team they beat last time they played? The whole reason football is what it is is because of results like those 3.
