Old Maine Road photos thread

Possibly St Edwards? My mum worked there at one point and they used to get silver service at Maine Rd on occasion! It was near the Parkfield. Think it was replaced by the school they built for the new estate on the ground, Divine Mercy.
Yes, it was St Edward's primary. There was also a school at the back of St Edward's church on Thurloe St., next door to Xaverian, in the late 60s.

Re the Platt Lane, they re-painted all the seats around '70-ish and that was when the numbers went on IIRC, though they didn't sell them as reserved seats very often apart from the S/T ones.

Weren’t there numbers painted on the benches?

Great picture of “The Tartan Trio” there, Neil McNab, fabulous player, always rated him VERY highly, very one footed but similar to Bernie, had that lovely close control, twist, turn and change of direction .
Much as I liked McNab we called him 'The Crab' (or 'McCrab') because, when passing, it always went sideways.

Platt Lane 'benches' was where I sat as a kid 72 to 76

What’s left round there pub wise now? The Claremont? Is that it? Not really counting the Wetherspoons as that wasn’t there at the time.

That's the away section of The Kippax. Must admit, I don't ever remember them leaving the top bit 'closed off' like that.
It was for the away section. At that time, I used to go in Platt Lane, my brother insisted, him being the ‘big brotherly type’ however a home match v Sunderland was all ticket for some reason in the seats meaning we had to go in Kippax. We ended up in the spot there, I almost got hit on the head by an aerosol can thrown down by a Sunderland fan. It wasn’t a nice experience, I remember it being hostile all the time, we got beat too. It wasn’t until a couple of seasons after I started to go in Kippax but much nearer the middle and I think by then the way fans had moved to the corner nearer to Platt Lane.

Platt Lane certainly had reserved seats for Season Ticket holders when it was still considered a home section. It would be painted on each seat whether it was a Season Ticket seat or not. Most, and there weren't many, were dead central behind the goal.
My brother’s boss and his wife were season ticket holders in Platt Lane, when they were on holiday, we used their tickets, thought we were the bees knees. So many took their own cushions to sit on:)

Well done to the Claremont for clinging on - Sherwood, Clarence, Birch Hotel, Beehive, The Whitworth, Parkside all gone.
