The "which famous person died today" thread

Video of "5 minutes" when I was at school. Bit of a warm up intro with Greenfield scrolling up and down, Jean Jacques thrashing away on the bass. Jet just sat there disinterested, then thud, thud, thud as the song begins properly. Expression hardly changes throughout the whole track. Stranglers were way better musicians than we realised as kids and he was a big part of it. I thought he was older to be honest as he never really looked "debonair" did he. RIP Sir

My favourite song from the Punk/New Wave era is "No More Heroes".

And one of my all-time favourite songs is "Golden Brown".

It’s so sad that many of the musicians that I listened to in my mid-late teens are passing away. Rankin' Roger, Dave Greenfield, Jet Black and others.

Both are great songs, but my personal favourite Stranglers song is their version of
"Walk On By".
It's got a fantastic uptempo beat,and I think Hugh Cornwell's singing is unbeatable.

Ah the video was not Brubeck, but surely he did it first ??Is this the right one,absolutely intrigued.

Any way great tune, great song, great loss..No more heroes. Reminds me of the greatest Bowie song too.

It's some seriously clever video editing. Google "Take vibe ep" or look on bandstand. About to be re-released on 7" vinyl. First time I saw it, I was fooled. Tried to find Brubeck version on Discogs and then realised. Flip side is a version of " walking on the moon". Bit of a master stroke using Brubeck on the video. Looks cool, sounds cool

I grew up as a Bunnyman but always admired The Stranglers. Got into them more as I grew older. I've been blasting out their songs over the last week and fucking love them. They wrote some top tunes,some very punk, some true pop classics as well. Rest in Peace Jet. A cool drummer and bongo player
 
I showed the Jet Black story to my dad who's in hospital.

Found it amusing that he is (slightly) younger than someone who was in a punk band
