Old Maine Road photos thread

Still love that shirt more than any other. Not just because it was my first, and I ponced around in it thinking I could be a footballer if I could develop thigh muscles like King Colin.
But it's the simplicity of it. No sponsor, no badge, no writing of any kind. Nothing extraneous. Nothing showy. Just the quiet assurance of that celestial blue, with its white trim, that everyone would know who you were and where you were from.

(The guy wearing it isn't too shabby, either…)

Film of Maine Road’s opening here and you can see the size and scale of the place when originally built:

Also, here’s my talk on match day at Maine Road with images, explanations etc. plus stuff on Hyde Road:

We made a very rare visit to the maine stand for this game , a delirious lap of honour before the game v west ham I think

Great pics and memories, for me the Kippax stopped being the Kippax when they put seats in.

Actually, hate to say it, because it had to be done — but football stopped being football on some level when they put seats in everywhere. Even when I had the money to sit, I always chose to stand (wherever the ground) if I could.
Wouldn't do it now, though! Jesus, had to do it through one or two away games in recent years and I realised that Father Time has caught up with me.

If only we were still at Maine Road - safe standing would be back and installed on the Kippax!

Dogshit alleys would be back ’n all. Tea weaker than gnats piss at the bottom of the Kippax steps, too (or so strong that you could strip the paint off your walls with it). The ghost of Helen ringing her bell, right at the front of the scoreboard end…
