Actually if he does behave like that — and I admit it's the first I've heard of it — sometimes that kind of behaviour can be symptomatic of someone knowing they're inferior. And resenting it.
You don't have to ''have heard of it''. Just do what lots on here seem to do and pick a derogatory word for his personality and run with it.
You can't have, arrogant, miserable, twat, little shit or gimp, as they are already taken by the mindreaders of bluemoon.

Tbf my use of the phrase cheeky little shit only applies if it's true. Wish I'd have gotten hold of 'gimp' before it was snatched up though. :-)

The greatest footballer of all time is Pele.
Anyone else is in a contest for second place, possibly third behind Duncan Edwards.

I never said any such thing,

I said declaring him the greatest is an insult.

The Facts are there for anyone to see. Pure footballing merit, skill, talent, longevity, impact, integrity and as a human. like it or not, Messi has it all.

Diego, for all his natural talent was a disgrace a lot of the time and was not around at the very top anywhere near as long as Messi. That’s just facts.

Let’s not forget that his self proclaimed ‘hand of god goal’ helped them to the 86 World Cup! He’s a cheat and a blatant one and in no way can he be compared to Messi. His lack of integrity throughout his career alone stops that.

And as for football knowledge?

Deary me.

Blatant cheating,

However it didn’t directly lead to a career defining World Cup win. Then there is the failed Drug tests and bans from football and his thuggery on the pitch. For which 2 clubs wanted rid of him!

lance armstrong won stuff too you know?

This is black mark in Messi’s career if you like.

It hasn’t defined his legacy though.

I'm a bit to young to have witnessed Pele, what I have seen on TV he was outstanding, but he didn't really play in the top leagues In his career

I think Pele was bigger, stronger, faster and better in the air than Messi. This is based on the limited footage that I have seen and the books that I have read. Whether this makes him a better player or not is debatable.
I think Harry Maguire may be better in the air than Messi

Lying about what happened at Napoli doesn't make your argument stronger. No one will every accomplish what you described again for the simple reason it never happened in the first place.

Napoli were in the UEFA cup in 1983 after finishing 4th in 1982 and 3rd in 1981. They weren't a bottom of the table team in Serie A.

He went to Napoli because they broke the world record to sign him, and then they spent the same amount again on players to go around him. In modern day spending it's the equivalent of dropping £350m in one window.

More like Chelsea 2004/5 than Leicester City.

Sure it was a great achievement, but it certainly wasn't the story of a global superstar deciding to go to the worst club in the league and single handedly carrying them to victory.

As for the greatest side in Europe, they lost in the first round of the European Cup the one year he played in it for them, but did have an impressive win in the old UEFA/Europa League.
Before he arrived Napoli had never won the Scudetto. Not once.

In 1982-1983 and 1983-1984 they narrowly avoided relegation and finished a point above the relegation zone just weeks before he signed.

You're completely right that they had a good team surrounding him after he signed, a number of Italy internationals but nothing compared to the other top teams in that era.

And dropping $350 million in one window doesn't guarantee success. Every club in Italy at that time were extremely wealthy. All the top players in the world were playing there.

It's nothing like Chelsea. Before he came Napoli had won almost nothing, after he left they had 2 Scudetti, a UEFA Cup and an Italian Cup.

All this while his off field was a mess.

The guy is an all time great and in the top 3 of all time without any doubts.

Why do you keep adding this, as if being a woman beating cocaine addict up to his neck in gambling debts with the mafia and on the run from governments for avoiding tax is some sort of contributor to his claim to greatness?

So players are ok to cheat as long as it’s not in a big match?

You sound like those boring cunts Peter Shilton and Terry Butcher - still banging on about something that happened nearly 40 years ago.

The handball didn’t define Maradona’s legacy. His 2nd goal, the semi final and the overall Mexico 86 tournament did.

You're right, it's not a contributing factor.

I'm just in awe that someone with so much drama off the field can put it all aside and produce incredible consistent performances on it.

You seem to have a lot of dislike for Maradona. Where do you personally rate him?

Ok, clearly this is pointless.

But as a side, since the 70’s the Argentinian sports press hand out a yearly award to the best Argentinian footballer player of that year. Domestic or abroad. It’s revered in Argentina as their individual top sports award. It’s based purely on football performance and achievements of that year.

Messi has 14 soon to be 15

Maradona has 4

Greatness should be measured by your overall professionalism, impact, longevity, consistency and achievements of your career.

Messi wins hands down. It’s not even a debate.
