The Rodri rule change had nothing to do with the interpretation of the Salah goal offside, seriously, it’s been a misnomer for several years now.

Its exactly the same….?? Defender deliberately plays the ball so the offside player (rodri/salah) doesnt count (second phase)…. Thats the interpretation in both incidents

It’s not, after the Villa match ithe rule was changed as Rodri came from behind Mings in an offside position and won the ball. The Salah goal on Saturday was allowed under the same rule as the Harry Kane penalty going back to 2018 v the Dippers where he won a penalty from an offside position but Loveren attempted to play the ball. There’s been many instances between then and now. We had this discussion on here last year.

The law itself hasn’t changed but the official guidelines as to what constitutes a “deliberate play” of the ball were revised last summer.

My honest opinion is that the Wolves guy actions could quite easily fall into either category. It’s probably as difficult an incident to firmly put in a ‘deliberate’ or ‘non- deliberate’ play of the ball as it’s possible to have. Because of that i think the VAR should have referred it back to the referee to take another look, so it was him making the decision rather than the VAR himself.
