Southampton (A) - Carabao Cup | Post Match Thread

Forgetful night. Southampton deserved everything tonight. Gomez and Palmer are levels off. The entire team was uninspiring though. Just an overall kick in the balls, this game.

For me it's a psychological issue to beat perceived rivals, which is why top teams often capitulate against lower established teams, cos they don't see them as a challenge.

Tonight's game had all the hallmark of overconfidence and expecting a lower based team to roll over.

Personally, I'm glad we got beat as you have to be on it all the time, by working the game, properly. Not just expect to win.
Fuck me your glad we got beat?
Me I'm fucking fuming as I'm sure hundreds of other fans who made the long trip

How would you rate our season so far? How many games do you think we have played really well? Are we at the same level as previous years under Pep? This performance was not a “one off” as I have watched every game this season and we have mostly been well below our usual standards.
7 out of 10 in a season that has featured a World Cup smack bang in the middle of it. Don't forget, Foden, Grealish, Phillips, Stones and Walker have recently come back from 4 weeks way with the Waistcoat, plus another 10 first team players out in Qatar, including Kev who played in Martinez's Belgium team.

We're in with a decent chance in the PL and we're still in the FAC. We're a little off our best, but it honestly isn't the shit show people are making it out to be.

Cancelo proved tonight he’s a great left back. And that is all. Why didn’t pep take Gomez off and put walker to rb and Cancelo to lb where we’ve had success after success. No need to take bring 2 defenders on then. Cancelo has proven over and over he’s shit for us at right back.
Hasn’t been a lot better on the left this season. His passing has gone to shit no matter what side he’s on. His first touch is like playing it off a wall. His concentration is awful.

Wide players will struggle with no support from the FBs. We've seen this all season. Against Chelsea, Mahrez suddenly had an overlapping FB and looked a completely different player. Tonight back to inverted FBs. They are killing our play.
1000000 percent
