4 assists in 7 matches since the world cup including a man of the match performance in the very first game against the scousers.

The team as a whole isn't playing at our top level, I don't really know what you are expecting more from him?

Stats for this year;

Very good as always.
It’s obvious. Consistency. Those figures camouflage massively fluctuating performances.

Remember the statistician with his head in an oven and feet in a bucket of ice? “On average I feel fine”.

Whether he’s in good enough shape to deliver more consistently is another matter.

What excuse do the others have then who have no figures and also fluctuating performances.

Good attempt to deflect (well moderate anyway) but I was answering your specific point about KDB.
It was a question not a deflection.

I don't believe there is any issue with Kev, he is the only one in midfield delivering any assists or performances (outside of Rodri) but now all of a sudden there is an inquisition into his fitness and mental state. Only on BM.

He's sadly on a similar path to David Silva as he got older. The magician wasn't creating his magic so often and it's the same with Kev. As somebody mentioned his stats are decent but his overall play has dipped. He gives the ball away a fair bit and his stamina is waning. Our midfield needs a refresh in the summer but where do you get another Kev and David Silva?

Dave is ripping it up still !

Now you are deflecting to BM.

Use your eyes. Kev’s fitness/injury issues have been apparent for a lot longer than the last couple of months. He’s arguably been overplayed by Pep and Martinez and it’s catching up with him.

His worst performances recently have arguably been his worst ever in a City shirt. Has he ever given the ball away so often?

It’s amplified by the fact that Grealish has taken a long time to settle, Gundo’s not on great form, Bernardo and Foden are out of form and favour, Phillips is persona non gratis and Gundo’s maybe past his peak.

He‘s still a world beater on his day. Nobody can deny that. But I can’t think of anyone else whose performances fluctuate so wildly.

I am using my eyes, then backed it up with stats. If you want to hold up some different standard then you are welcome to do so.

You are talking like he is booting the ball out of play every 30 seconds. He is playing passes and others aren't on the same page as him, who's fault is that?
He will always take more risk than anyone else, but he is capable of delivering at a higher level than everyone else so you just roll with it.

We’re probably not really all that far apart.

It’s because his ceiling is so high that his weaker performances are so noticeable. And yes, his passes are far more ambitious than anyone else’s.

Don‘t get me wrong. I think he’s a wonderful player who just needs to be played more sparingly.

We desperately miss a fit de Bruyne. Our only midfielder willing to constantly risk losing possession in favour of putting someone through

It just looks like he'd struggle to keep up with Jamie Pollock at the moment

I’d love to see a 50 yard sprint with Kevin, pollock, Rick Holden and Rodri. That would be funny if they were all at their peak of course

Not gonna say Kev should've started. The issue is we can't seem to create anything without a fit and firing Kev.

He isn't fit.

Go back two years ago and look at KDB and he's much slimmer. He's put on weight and it's showing as he's blowing out of his arse after 10 mins.

I guess that can happen after injuries, playing non stop etc.

The problem is he's the only one who can create anything.

Definitely not fit, but theirs always the chance he will get an assist or score a beaty.we have no one else to step up and create when he doesn't play.

It may be fitness, it may be he is carrying an injury....

However I think its more likely that we are seeing the downturn in performance level due to age....he is too consistently off it for it to be the others.

Maybe I am overexpecting here but he did step up for the last 10 games of last season when he barely had a break.

He did you are right and Im holding onto that glimmer of light....

However he is the huge elephant in the room for me at present...without him we create very little...with him our midfield massively struggles to control the game as he is losing possession an awful lot and doesnt make recovery runs....he cant run away from people as he used to either
