PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

It's a 4 year long investigation, so they might have former players, managers and agents who have given statements to explain how they ended up with more money in their accounts, than what the club officially offered up to the investigation. A third party company that pays players and managers under the table for image rights, commercial bonuses etc etc...

They seem very confident of the facts around the Mancini payments. So if the club are saying that he was paid 4 million, but the bank of Zurich are saying 8 million, then there is clear proof that stuff has been going on off the books. And that is just one manager. When you consider all of the players who have come and gone in the last 14 seasons, then the scale of it starts to make your knees knock.
Why would a bank break GDPR by giving the PL ANY information about Mancini or his accounts?

tbh mate I've been hearing the same for a decade, and nothing has changed. It's time we changed our approach, because all we have achieved with the passive approach is to allow the bullies to continue bullying
There was no "passive approach" with the last UEFA charges that we took to CAS

The club have said it with the final line of their statement
"As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all"

No idea how this will end but one thing I do know is that this will be a really long thread and drag on for years.......

This is all for just Section 1 of the PL Statement

(a) for Season 2009/10, Premier League Rules B.13, C.71, C.72, C.75 (amended to C.79 from 10 September 2009 for the remainder of Season 2009/10) and C.80;
Rule B.13 relates to City having acted towards the league and other clubs “in the utmost good faith”. It will be referenced again in the statement’s later sections.

Rules C.71 and C.72 relate to the submission of City’s accounts (to the registrar of companies), while C.75 is regarding their projected profit and loss accounts in their application for a UEFA club licence to play European football. Premier League clubs are obligated to submit their accounts for auditing every year.

Rule C.80, meanwhile, refers to City’s provision of tickets to visiting clubs to their stadium (then-named City of Manchester Stadium, now called the Etihad Stadium).

(b) for Season 2010/11, Premier League Rules B.13, C.78, C.79, C.86 and C.87;
Rules C.78 and C.79 again refer to the club’s accounts from the previous financial year, specifically to their profit and loss report and revenue streams.

Rules C.86 and C.87 relate to their “future financial information”, also including profit and loss accounts, as well as cash flows and balance sheets.

(c) for Season 2011/12, Premier League Rules B.13, E.3, 4, E.11 and E.12;
Section E of the Premier League rulebook for the 2011-12 season refers to the rules regarding fixtures — from 2012-13 onwards, they instead refer to club accounts and finances, as detailed below.

(d) for Season 2012/13, Premier League Rules 16, E.3, E.4, E.11 and E.12;
Rules E.3 and E.4 relate to the submission of the club’s most recent annual accounts, including a balance sheet, a breakdown of profit and loss and revenue streams.

Rules E.11 and E.12, meanwhile, refer to the club’s financial projections, again including profit and loss, cash flow and balance sheets.

(e) for Season 2013/14, Premier League Rules 15, E.3, E.4, E.11, E.12 and E.49;
Rule E.49 states that a club must inform the Premier League if any of their accounts or financial projections are likely to change, adversely or otherwise, from their previous statements.
(f) for Season 2014/15, Premier League Rules 16, E.3, E.4, E.11, E.12 and E.50;
Rule E.50 is the same as Rule E.49 above.
(g) for Season 2015/16, Premier League Rules 16, E.3, E.4, E.11, E.12 and E.50;
Same as above
(h) for Season 2016/17, Premier League Rules16, E.3, E.4, E.11, E.12 and E.51; and
Rule E.51 is the same as Rules E.50 and E.49 above.
(i) for Season 2017/18, Premier League Rules B.16, 3, E.4, E.11, E.12 and E.51.
Rule B.16 again refers to acting in “the utmost good faith” in matters between City, the Premier League and other clubs.
Christ with all these bloody rules I suspect every Club must have failed to comply with loads of them.

The could, possibly, have information like that however I find it very unlikely.

I don't think foreign banks would comply with the PL because they think a client was overpaid.

The club/the UAE would know if former employees were under investigation and I'm just saying if they did such practices they wouldn't leave a paper trail.

More than likely is they have the hacked emails from Rui Pinto where such things may be discussed however this isn't proof.

To be honest these issues look like relatively trivial administrative matters. Hardly what would be understood as “cheating” even if true.

I’d be gutted if this were to come to pass. I believe the club that we are innocent and I want this put to bed.
I think there's quite a serious issue of national integrity at stake here. The UK government and establishment loves UAE money, have done for years.

What the PL is doing is basically calling SM a crook. He isn't going to take that lying down I'm 100% sure of that. It transcends football.

The more I think about it it just looks like desperate shit flinnging by the PL heavily influenced by american owners that are looking at getting out because the card game can't be rigged in their favour.

The PL structure will be the casualty. FSG and the Glazers will be long gone with their ill gotten gains.

I think City will go for full exoneration, and if needed they will use the levers that they have to get it ( and I don't blame them for that).

For someone who is a bit thick (me) does anyone know what we have actually been charged with?
I am a bit concerned because in september 1978 just oustside the kippax stand I found 50p on the floor which I just put in my pocket & didnt tell anyone, do you think I might be in trouble from the FA?
Hopefully time-barred

Are we as fans able to contend that the PL are interrupting our fan experience? They have used moments from the affected and alleged seasons as an advertisement and promotion materials. If City are alleged to be full of lies and cheats, are they not stealing from us?

We're CENTURIONS. 100 charges? Ten counts of miscounted a gate opening? 6 counts of overpriced programmes?! Pathetic. 100 counts. 100 allegations. They clearly didn't give one rat's posterior about the fans.

CENTURIONS

Ironically, I think these accusations, as well as their very deliberate timing, will re-energize all within the club and create a siege mentality. Staff and players angry at the constant attacks? Today could very well be the day we won the league. Expect a deep CL run as well.
Heard it here first!

I’m very late to hear the news due to being a work all day and no mobile signal.

Could one of our more sensible posters please give me a nutshell version including whether we’re actually in bother or is it just handbags?

My view is the PL is a brand and a business. They're not going to relegate you because if they do they hurt their brand, sponsorship and income.

However this has seemingly come with government pressure to regulate the PL. So they have to be seen to do something. I'd imagine the worse case scenario is a transfer ban and a points deduction. A points deduction possibly hurts the brand as it is seen as unsporting though so less likely. However it depends, if they think a club with a bigger fanbase winning with City having a points deduction it may mean they put the points deduction in. It would also be a very hollow victory of City get more points and another team 'wins the league', so it seems unlikely in my view.

Knowing how much money is in football they're probably fishing for bribes and fines is my guess. This is likely a long drawn out case anyway and will be challenged in the high courts. So any punishment is unlikely to happen in the next 12 months. This apparently won't go to CAS like the UEFA case though because the PL is an independent regulator. So in that sense it is harder for City to win. This is just my reading this morning and afternoon and comes with as little bias as possible.

Having said all of this the PL haven't regulated FFP to date so doing so would be a U-turn from their MO.
