I think gvaridol coming in is enough in terms of cbs it will be gvaridol and ake for left centre back cover

dias stone and akanji for right side cover.

Also dias can play left side if needed like we saw when dias and stones were cb partnership

Fully agree on all of that BUT I think Stones' reoccurring fitness issues/constant injuries do concern Pep...he has mentioned it a number of times. For me Stones is possibly our best centre half but he misses quite a few games every season

I agree with stones fitness problems but i think if gvaridol comes in a laporte leaves we still have 5 centrebacks which i think is enough cover it still leaves us with 2 for the right side even with stones issues.

This is my thinking. Polar opposites.

The Rice is a midfielder with a lot of the traits of a centre back. Bellingham is a midfielder with a lot of traits of a forward.

Bellingham is surely seen as an 8, Rice as a 4 (6 if you’re foreign).

But we can’t have Rodri and Rice in the same squad then either? If Gundogan stays then he would be come the back up DM? Akanji could play there as well imo so no need for Rice and that’s also under the assumption that Phillips actually leaves?

You may be right but I have no idea what you have based this on. He has no experience in that position and he doesn’t seem particularly better suited to that position than Aké or Stones.

100% I don’t see us having a need for Rodri, Rice and Phillips.

FWIW I don’t want Rice particularly, I’d rather resign Lavia from Southampton or persist with Phillips as he’s not really had much of a shot so far - and also give Perrone some game time.

We have to try and get the best players in their position out there and bellingham and gvaridol are the best, rice we can get rid of Phillips and put some cash so maybe £50-40m plus Phillips which even I think is a lot saying rice has one more year on their contract.

I'd be more than happy with that. Rice over Phillips all day!
