Aston Villa (H) - Post-Match Thread

Well sure thats fine, but I want better games than I can live with it, we can want more.
Wanting something is great. Nowt wrong with shooting for the stars (cliche alert). I'm all for it. I was hoping for a "statement" win today, 5 or 6 goal margin. It wasn't to be. Sometimes, we have to settle for less than perfection. As in life. This seems to be one of those seasons.

Very sloppy second half, but very good first half. Laporte & Rodri were excellent. Grealish unlucky not to score and Mahrez had one of the funniest misses I've seen (after great work by Alvarez).

Still, I wanted 3 points & a performance and we got that.
As I said about Mahrez miss- not seen that since Mick Channon days.

I don't like us coasting games when we've built a comfortable lead, it always leads to an opposition goal and we then become nervy. Great win but we need to up it even more for Wednesday night

Better first half but we’re still no where near the levels we’ve been in the past. Second half was frustrating to watch. Plenty of possession but doing nothing with it. Might explain the embarrassing routine fire drills.
Looking forward to getting back to the Champs league again as we,ve been off form since we last played. It’s amazing we’re still on the tails of Arsenal.

Today was all about the win. I'm still that pissed off, my head was just on the business at hand & victory, rather than the performance.

The difference today as opposed to last weekend? KDB picked up his pace & effort, as did Rodri. Both have been below par the past few games & as a team in transition this season, we can't afford passengers.

I said in August that our season would come down to how the B Squad performed. The fact that Philips & Gomez have hardly been involved all season is disappointing & concerning. We're coming into the business end of the season without Cancelo, & neither Philips or Gomez have contributed fuck all so far, & that doesn't look like changing any time soon.

BERNARDO at LEFT BACK? That says it all... :-/

We did what we needed to do against a counter-attacking 6-3-1 formation. We seemed more on it today, but don't expect that we can just flick a switch & be back to our very best. It will take time, but time is starting to ebb away.

It was great hearing the PL anthem being booed, as it galvanised the team & players. It's us vs the PL & the Hateful 8 (plus one), & it's they who declared war on us, so fuck the lot of em!

If they want war, let's give em a fuckin war! \0/

Not seen a replay of the Haaland Martinez collision, for those watching on the box was it the right call? Looked a 50/50 at the time, not sure it’s a foul either way, just a coming together.
Right call for me, Haaland was looking at the ball but got there second, clearly a foul but nothing beyond that required. Shame because Gundogan put it away well.

Much better, but on top form City go on and win that by 5 or 6. Glad to see Dias and Laporte at the back, finaly, and we looked much better with them. Need a back four with Ake at left back against the Arse.
