Aston Villa (H) - Post-Match Thread

Rodri, Grealish and KDB were very good today. Feeling ok about the Arse game after the first half performance. 3 points and a fuck you to the PL with the boos and banners…

Tyler, do the right thing and just quit your job!

Very good 1st half, wtf ederson was doing for villa’s goal though?? doesn’t like making saves does he?, smash the gunners wed then its game on :)

Excellent result for us, and performance a step in the right direction.

First half we were direct and dynamic and playing with joy. Second half we took our foot off the accelerator to conserve energy while controlling the game.

Shame to concede the goal.

None of the subs were entirely convincing, but it's good to get some minutes back into Phil.

First half was good (not as good as we have been in the past but much better than recent)

But i can see how Pep questions the passion of this team...there is a lack of intensity or at least a lack of ability to maintain the intensity

Rodri clear MOTM

I hope Pep doesnt try that system against Arsenal - we will get beat if he does...Bernardo Silva is a talented player but he was having to do way too much defending in defensive areas....I feel Pep has again tried to shoehorn too many players into the midfield to make up for the lack of legs we now have in there with the ageing KDB and Gundo (who both played well, esp Gundo - KDB faded badly as the match went on and again was guilty of giving the ball away on numerous times.)

Walker - is he fully fit as it doesnt seem it..running slightly awkward and no where near full tilt.

Hopefully Haaland isnt injured though he aint getting any service at present at all....made numerous runs but our players refuse to play an early forward ball....Gundo also made a run at one point in the first half and he didnt get it either.

A 6/10 performance based on where we have been in previous seasons
Well played City. I get the impression Pep would like every player to be comfortable in every outfield position....come to think of it so would I. I agree with your first coupla paragraphs. Up the blues.

Three points, that's the important thing.

However, said at half time we needed to keep the foot on the gas. Second half was as poor as we've been since the restart. We're not playing well enough to ride just 45 minutes worth of momentum.

4-3-3 on Wednesday. Dias and Laporte at centre half, Ake left back, one of Walker/Lewis. Keep Akanji and these notions of three at the back in your head, please, Pep.
Why? We've got huge games coming up. No need to potentially risk needless injuries by playing at the same level of intensity, when the game was pretty much put to bed. I called it early on in the second half in the match thread, that I didn't think we'd be seeing too many more goals. I'm guessing here, but I imagine that Pep will be satisfied with 90% of that performance. Sloppy by Bernie for the goal. And Ederson as well. At least Bernie has an excuse, playing in a strange position. Anyway, on to wed night in that there London town. Come on lads, get those 3 points and crank up the pressure on Arsenal.
