Aston Villa (H) - Post-Match Thread

Good first half, movement and passing was very good. Would like to see us play a full 90+ mins like that, we always seem to have a sleepy half. Some sloppy passes and loss of concentration caused us problems in the second.
When Grealish went off we lost some of our forward movement. Foden was quite stationary and I think this was why he constantly passed the ball back. Grealish was making runs so the ball could go forward.
Pity Mahrez skied his shot, it's probably colliding with his liverpool penalty round about now. It would have been a good goal too.

Much better performance.. Though the second half was poor at times.

The drop-off in quality from Dias to Akanji couldn't have been any starker.

Excellent in the first half and comfortable in the second half. Much better performance than recent weeks.

Only worries are Eddie conceding with our first shot on target once again and Akanji being weak as piss in any contest with the attacker.

I thought Ederson was very good today. Couple vital saves and was quick off his line.

Agree on Akanji though. Time for him to be the 5th choice he was signed to be not play every single minute.

His booking of Dias was a joke, but our players have to understand we are reffed differently and stop picking up idiotic bookings like that.
It must be very difficult to hold yer tongue when our players are getting chopped incessantly and even though we might get the free kick, there's very few of these blatant, attacking-move fouls that deliver a booking. I've come to the conclusion on both sides of the Nexen Bridge that refs think that the fewer yellow cards they show it highlights a ref who is in control. On the contrary, he/she is one who doesn't deliver the same LotG to both sides impartially.

Akanji really is the £16m defender he is.

Doesn't get touch tight, Pep screaming at him repeatedly to do so.

Can't win shit in the air and positionally weak.

The drop off is huge which is a shame, because he looked composed on the ball when he first arrived.

Walker has defo peaked and, dare I say it, losing a bit of pace.

De Bruyne continues to frustrate and be careless, while Mahrez played for himself.

Decent first half from Bernie, Gundo and Rodders, and job done by then.

A second half to forget, such was the boredom.

Oh, the grand old sheik mansour
he has 50.000 blues
we marched up to wembley way (and won)
he took us to the top of the league
and hell takes back down an again
