Joey Barton’s autobiography

i get a bit tired of the working class cliche on your shoulder routine from British people. use it as an excuse to be dickheads.

many many footballers make it from third world countries growing up in slums and horrific poverty. they still manage to be decent respectful people.

Exactly this. Having a hard life is no excuse for poor behaviour.

On the subject of Barton's book, is it a series of potato prints?

Agreed. Richarlison comes from poverty and the area he’s from is notorious for gang crime. Luka Modric grew up during a war. The Tourés grew up in poverty, so did Pelé and Suarez and Mané and none of them are as cunty as Barton, even the Uruguayan Hannibal Lecter.

Just read his autobiography. Went in with an open mind as he did have an impact on our history, whether it was stubbing cigars out in youth players eyes, or assaulting teenage Everton fans on pre season Asian tours. But wow, starts off with his upbringing in what he describes as a difficult environment. You get the jist, parents split. Council estate. Wrong side of the tracks.blah blah. Fuck me we all carry this shit, or know a friend who does. Anyway I quite liked it for the first few chapters because I could relate to his tales and life experiences but my god by halfway through it, I realised that Joey or Joe, by the end of his reincarnation, likes to be addressed, was a compete narcissistic, ego filled, blame shifting **** of the highest order. Would eat himself if he was chocolate.
Likes to play the hard man, grew up in Huyton, estate this estate that. What an absolute hypocrite he really is. It was penned by him, supposedly in 2017, before he got into management. He’d been reborn, was an articulate, troubled soul, misunderstood by the red topped biased media, who really deep down, under the layers would have been a drug dealing scrote had he not been a footballer.
Delusional character in my opinion who like many footballers before him, think he’s the bees knees. What a prick. Anyone else read it?
Don't need to read it now, i know the ending :)

I'd say he played a big part in keeping us up that season under Pearce. I remember a win away at Fulham in particular.

Was at that game.. that was a really big game in our history as could have been very different had we lost.. we were awful at that moment in time.

I've had to google this, but Barton played more games for City than any other club, and otherwise only featured for any length of time at Newcastle and QPR.

City 130
Newcastle 81
QPR 93

He actually played more games for Burnley than Marseille, and aside from 2-3 serious assaults, and 3-4 stupid red cards, I'm struggling to remember his overall contribution to professional football.

So that begs the obvious question: Who would actually want to buy Joey Barton's autobiography?

He’s about as hard as candy floss. Me and my cousin had a run in with him and his mate one night in town, I recognised him instantly and tried to act the peacemaker, Joey took this as a sign of weakness and carried on gobbing off. Peacemaking has never been my cousin’s strong point and Joey quickly became aware that this situation wouldn’t end with a bit of handbags and a yellow card at which point he absolutely fucking bricked it.

Regardless I’ll always be grateful that he’s a **** otherwise he might not have got himself sent off for QPR.

Spot on. For every scumbag criminal brought up on a tough estate there are 99 decent law abiding folk who walked exactly the same streets.

There is a Podcast called crime in sport hosted by 2 American comics, it’s very funny. They have an episode on joey Barton (episode 99-the punchiness of joey Barton)
Admittedly they don’t know much about football, so you have to excuse some of their ignorance. But well worth a listen
