The Album Review Club - Week #195 (page 1310) - A New World Record - ELO

I think most of what could be said has been said about this album. I liked it first time I listened, it made me sit up and take notice but it was less a whack around the head and more a gentle tugging of the sleeves. I've liked it on each listen although some of those have been more engaged listening than others. I don't mind that some of the songs seem to finish almost as soon as they've started but there is also a sense of the album while being good being a little insubstantial. The first track title is very fitting, Call me the Breeze as it felt like a cool summer breeze, one you hardly notice is there but is pleasing all the same.

It's hard to fault it but it feels like a transient pleasure. I'm likely to explore more JJ Cale so job done in that respect and I can se me playing this album again, maybe even hoping for a more concrete sense of it. For the appealing flimsiness it's a 7

A few months ago, I was speculating what type of album would appeal to everybody. Well, if we ignore the single "5" vote, then such an album may look a lot like J.J.Cale's Naturally.

We might as well stop the scoring now, because I'm pretty sure that @OB1's pick will live on forever at the top of the table. In a Roger Bannisteresque slice of history, Naturally has become the first album to break the 8-point barrier.
14 votes at an average of 8.14 is such a gargantuan tally that I'm running out of superlatives.

Let's see how @Saddleworth2 follows this one up with this week's pick.

Tough act to follow , if I were Saddleworth I'd probably just swap my choice for maddest thing I liked and be done with it. Congolese nose flute music or summat.

Well done @OB1 . Great pick.

So very hard to follow up that. As foggy isn't around just now I decided to postpone my write up of my favourite Radiohead album. Instead something completely different to that or JJ.
