Hopefully that's the end of 3 at the back, it doesn't work and leaves us wide open.

No, it won't be the end. It will work against most teams.

Our problems in the first half were due to a combination of Arsenal's energy levels (which naturally dropped after the break) and an insufficiently good (a bit sloppy, a bit impatient) build up play. We were on top already before the Mahrez/Akanji sub.

How many times have we been shit in the first half and good in the second half. At what point does he realise - "whatever i was gonna do at half time...i'll do now."
That being said - we've looked lively the last couple of games - and that gives me a semi. There, I said it!

Pep "I tried something new, and it was horrible"

Guess that wasn't related to the back 3, for it worked vs Villa quite well. It was more related to our attempts to beat their press with long balls to Haaland and be more direct, which led to us having 73% pass completion in the first half and Arsenal dominating us.

Have to give him credit where it's due. Switched it up in the 2nd half, moved Bernardo to RW, put more pressure on Zinny and Gabriel which won us the game.

Really hated the idea that Pep must play the same formation and player all the time, if he really that kind of manager he will be out of game long before he joining City.

There's reason why he is one of the best.

Credit to him for recognising what many of us knew pre game.

Hopefully thats the end of this false full back shite.
It depends on the opposition and who is playing the false full-back role.

Silva versus Saka is a recipe for disaster. Yet Ake in that role worked out just fine.

Pep is very inventive and is constantly trying new tactics.

I hope, at some point, he tries a more direct attacking approach - risky open play designed to get the ball to Haaland quickly. This style is anathema to Pep's current style - emphasizing ball retention and control of the match - whereas I think a more open style might suit us better now that we have Haaland.

Got it wrong, then got it right. crucially tthough, he got it right at the correct time and didn't do what he's done in the past and waited for things to go wrong before changing it.

Hopefully that's the end of 3 at the back, it doesn't work and leaves us wide open.

Im 99.9% sure 3 at the back is not what he was referring to when he said he got it wrong and it was terrible.

Yep. He couldn't have been more clear that it was something he tried for the first time today, which means it wasn't the 3 at the back defence, nor Bernardo covering the left channel out of posession.

By the way, the man to man defence did not concede a single shot on target...

I just want to say, Ric, my Pep Talk book came this morning. Thank you!

Here's a bit from the Foreword written by none other than Marcello Lippi.

Pep's work goes beyond something tangible. The legacy he leaves in his teams is much more about the "how" than the "what". That is why he is so special. Pep's ability is to transmit, to convince others, and to reach the mind of the footballer. The way he communicates drags everyone towards his way of playing. The most complicated thing for a coach is not preparing the strategy - it's touching heartstrings. He is a master of that.

And Our Tata fully endorses the above.

Long balls in the second half at Highbury and now pep has gone full club shop in his pre match presser. He's channelling the inner Pullis to take us to glory.

There is big difference between keep changing and keep improving. Sometimes a change does not lead to positive results and it does not have to be complicated. Pep keeps changing things in complicated way and trying new ideas such as playing Bernardo as LB!!!, It is part of Pep thinking is finding new solutions but sometimes he chose complicate solutions. He could easily play Ake as LB, he already tried him in this position and Ake did well.

We did win against Aston Villa with Bernardo as LB.

Don't act we didn't win a single thing with this formation.
