The Conservative Party

I've tried before to get help and I don't qualify. I don't meet the criteria
Neither do I, as my income is deemed to be too high.
However, in the main it's a much fairer system than the one Thatcher wanted. I know its a big bill when you live in your own but even those on benefits now have to pay something towards it. And much of what we pay for is something we don't always "see" but it's something everyone in any community needs at some point.

Thatcher was faced with an overdue review of rateable values that would have affected rich voters the most, so she looked for an alternative. "Something must be done," she said. A civil servant said, "A poll tax is something," and Thatcher said, "Then that's what must be done".

Major ousted her, and brought in the council tax, then won the election saying "we are the party who abolished the council tax".

Gaslighting the gullible even then.

And the landed gentry pay a fraction of what they would have under the rates for their occupation of vast estates (and everyone with multiple homes gets a vote for the local council in each place).

And the other bonus of the suggested reform was that it would lead to traditional labour voters of the time, who were more likely to not register so as to avoid the massive increase, to not have the ability to vote.

I don't bet, but (as a political statement) I did ask William Hill for odds that the 1991 census would show a drop in population (against all the evidence). 20 to 1 against I'd have got. The government in the end had to adjust the figures to account for people "disappearing" to avoid the poll tax.

I wonder if Rees Smug will comment on the initial Priv. Com.( made up of a majority of Tories ) findings that Liar Liar Johnson - mislead and continued to mislead parliament - c’mon Jacob speak up, don’t go all shy on us

Want to see a Times Radio (prop. Murdoch) host ask Oakeshott why she didn't use her TalkTV (prop. Murdoch) show to break the story, but instead went to the rival Telegraph and also got in a shouting match with Harry Cole of the Sun (prop. Murdoch) as to why?

Oakeshott gets a little snippy.

A thoroughly unpleasant character. It seems clear to me that Oakeshott’s weird anti-lockdown libertarian bullshit agenda was the reason she stitched Hancock up. Not that I’ve got any sympathy for that ****.

I'm beginning to think that her quest to go on every single news show for two days has taken a toll, and she's now just talking rubbish, and issuing veiled threats that she also claims she won't use (no, Isabel, no-one believes you).

Wait until someone asks her about giving Arron Banks' emails to the Sunday Times because she thought he was a Russian agent, had it revealed in court and that those emails appear to have been squashed. Strange that she didn't write a piece on that as it was in the public interest...

That interview suggests slight tension at News UK. Murdoch protecting the govt, so she went to the immediate rival maybe?

She does appear to be quite unpleasant though, and totally untrustworthy.

He was on Channel 4 News earlier squirming like fuck about it, blaming Sue Gray for being biased towards Labour and questioning not just her integrity but also that of the privileges committee, despite most of them being Tories.

It was quite a performance he put in, shameless in the transparency of his aims.
Guru-Murthy of course was the one who insulted him on audio after an interview last year.

Just a hunch but I reckon if the fash Richard and Judy concept ever gets off the ground it wont be on TalkTv. Other extremist networks are available howeve.

Govt in tatters - armed forces so depleted as to be unable to mount any sort of defence of course Argentina chooses now to chance their arm. This govt has spent 13 years destroying us and deserve nothing but contempt from us
