Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

You can just about see the roof trusses in the first picture.

The last 3 pictures show the white/cream cladding at ground level. Hopefully they've been coated the cladding with something so they can be cleaned, otherwise they are going to get dirty very quickly.

There’s a huge civic proposal to create tree lined boulevards in the area, and a Processional route to Old Trafford.

The Qataris could back the proposal financially.

Much as I would like MUFC to fail (my default position as a Blue) I think that huge external investment in this area would be fantastic for Greater Manchester and the entire region. In fact the possibility of a full-on global rivalry between City and United would benefit both clubs. It would put Manchester on the map as a global city and start to address the disgraceful inequality between the North and South of the UK. Let's face it London-based politicians (of all parties) have done fuck all for Manchester in the last 30 years. We need more investment in the North West, especially in infrastructure.

I agree. What we are seeing now is the full-scale globalisation of football. The genie is out of the bottle. The financial rewards are off the scale because football is growing hugely across the world. Some clubs will end up like Amazon or the tech giants. I don't know if this will be good or bad long-term for matchgoing local fans but I am happy that, at least for now, City will be along for the ride.

That pinch of salt doesn’t come any bigger than the Bam person who’s in-charge of the Arena build.

He admitted the build is behind schedule due to numerous factors. He didn’t say the build could definitely be done to schedule, but they are working as hard as they can to get the build done to schedule or close to it. If all the arena isn’t going to be built to schedule they will concentrate on the main areas of the arena and finish the other parts of the arena whilst the arena is open. The arena construction figures and facts he told us during the presentation were really impressive.

What a brilliant OpenDoors2023 event we had this morning at Co-op Live with a mix of visitors from some of our lovely local residents and college students from The Manchester College

We kicked off the session with an overview of the project/build to date from Martin Horne, Project Director BAM UK & Ireland who answered many questions from the group in depth followed by a presentation from Ben Tipple about the arena's sustainable initiatives and what the space will look like once operational.

Ben Taylor talked about BAM UK & Ireland's apprenticeship scheme and all the benefits that go with taking up an apprenticeship within construction and also his experience to date / a "typical day" working on site.

We finished the event with Q&As on the viewing platform
followed by Joe Mercer Way.

I'm in position where I knew the answer, I was just curious as to what they would say to the public. They've not told the truth on the end date since pre-con. I've been saying on here for about 8/9 months its delayed despite all official channels saying December 23 (They've finally dropped that line).

TBF, Martin Horne, Project Director BAM UK & Ireland did say to us the construction of the arena was behind schedule, and if it wasn’t completely finished on time it would still open.

I think it’s fair to say he more than anyone knows what’s going on and the current construction timescale.

Maybe take what I’ve posted or the way I posted it with a pinch of salt, rather than what he said?

Oh he definitely knows the true end date. Its on the EOTs bam have already issued.

OVG have previously opened arenas when not complete to hit target dates, thats likely here but it wont be the December date, maybe spring. Doing that though would push the end date out even further though. You'd then likely have 4 large projects on site with 3 Main Contractors.

As a building construction and Etihad campus "muggle" and luckily there seems to be a few guys on here that know what they are talking about, will the club benefit directly from the new arena financially, it all seems a bit confusing with FFP, have the red tops got this angle covered as well.

Yes - we own a smidge under half of it.
