We should sell Ake, Cancelo, Grealish and more in their first season alone then.

Ake, Cancelo and Grealish were all better players than him before they joined us and had more of an impact in their first season, even if they struggled.

There's a chance he comes good eventually but there's no guarantee simply because far more talented players than him also took a while to get going.
 
Phillips is playing not very impressively in a notoriously difficult 1st year at City, behind the best DM in the world.
The 2nd year is when he can be expected to shine, same as many other players who went through the same process.
The boy needs a motm performance to get his self belief back. City is a tough place to shine.
Pep needs to play him at Wembley from the start.

You didn't saw their season first player performance thread in here? Completely different than in recent years except Cancelo who is fallen cliff so hard right now. Ake have not impact in his first year because his injury same case like Philips, and so many people slagging Grealish as waste of purchase and wants him immediately get sold in his first season.

Many fans thought back then that these player will never make it to City beyond first year and yet prove them wrong and contribute City in someway. Why fans still never learn from the past and not giving Philips chance immediately judging him that he couldn't hack to City playing the most complicated system in the world in the most difficult position in the world as Pep DM behind one of the world best DM at the moment Rodri. Many top DM will have though time to adapt Pep scheme and giving Rodri the fight for his starting place. Philips will be no different.

He shouldn't just like many player that you mentioned above don't give a shit any negative opinion on social media and start to improve himself so he can play better not only for the next match but also next season.
 
Philips seems a likeable guy and his admittance he was shit last night was refreshing, however his passing and decision making were terrible, I’d hate to see his pass completion rate, lots of turnovers came from him trying to find Walker. Unfortunately been behind probably the best DM in Europe won’t help but he’s quite a way off, maybe he would be better if they’d not taken off the others who could help him but yesterday exposed how far behind some players are.

Grealish has been getting hate since he arrived… he’s now flying and looking every bit his price tag at times. Let’s not judge Phillips or crucify him in his first season with us, he’s behind Rodri who we can’t drop at present! Give him the time he deserves.
Now whens Jude signing?
 
Besides adding starting level players like Bellingham. Adding quality squad depth is going to be important this summer. Palmer, Gomez and maybe even Phillips need to go. Then we have players like Laporte and Cancelo who will probably leave as well. I'm concerned that we lose both Bernardo and Gundogan on top of that. Bernardo especially is going to be hard to replace.

You really don't think that with an extra season under their belt plus a full pre season with no world cup distraction that Palmer, Phillips and Gomez could improve and do a job?
I see gomez as another zinchenko project if he could learn to fit in for the odd game he could be invaluable. Palmer can play multiple positions in peps system and can clearly understand the tactics or he wouldn't get any minutes. And fatty has played next to no minutes. If we sign replacements surely they all have to have a year to bed in too?
Also as another poster just said, it would be great if laporte has turned a corner and can stay.
I really hope we retain one of gundo and Bernardo
 
I would like to see Phillips play with Rodhri once or twice, just in front of him, with the remit of taking control of the midfield. He looked short on confidence yesterday. Otherwise I agree - leave him alone to get on with it. pep doesn't get it wrong often.

In truth the same will happen with Jude if he arrives..Everyone will expect him to perform like KdB from the outset..Do not get the Phillips hate..injured,played little, clearly some weight issues, but give the guy a chance. Joining a Pep side is like working for Einstein with an a degree in physics..it all takes time and has been proven to be so, with so many players.

This transfer window will be very interesting. A few perhaps leaving, but what will be interesting is to see how the possible impact of PL sanctions affects the transfer program and the quality of player we buy. I suspect much less action than people imagine.

Problem is, as it stands, the one and only chance he MAY get is Shef Utd in the semi-final.
Looked totally bereft of confidence yesterday, I've said in other threads, he genuinely looks like he's got it into his head he's not gonna make it with us (a shame because there's a player there judging by some of his passes yesterday). If that is the case both parties need to move on.

Mate, no one who came on yesterday covered themselves in glory, Philips included.

We made changes to the starting line-up & then made substantial substitutions on top of that.

It disrupted our rhythm, but we can't keep rinsing the same players match after match.

12 months ago the same was being said about Grealish, but where are his haters now? \0/

Philips is one of us & he deserves our 100% support. It pains me when I see our fans attacking our players like this.

We're all supposed to be in this together. For better for worse, richer or poorer, until death do us part. If we don't support our players, then who will?
