Think it was meant too as it was a test flight launch

' SpaceX officials on the webcast cheered the feat of getting the fully integrated Starship and booster rocket off the ground for a clean launch and declared the brief episode a successful test flight. '
It was not meant to blow up.

4500 tones of Methane is the equivalent CO2 of 112500 tones.

If Elmo's willy-waving rocket launch has terminated within the atmosphere then the environmental impact won't be insignificant.
But, but—as his private flight records (and Tesla’s carbon credit selling programme) show—he is all about saving the planet!

It was blown up deliberately. As test launches go it was decent but of course that's not as click baity for the media.

By the by, 112,500 metric tones of CO2 is roughly equivalent to 25,000 average petrol-powered vehicles driving one year in the US.

Really offsetting emissions is our billionaire manchild.

Not as in that was the plan all along, but for sure that was terminated when it started spinning.
They themselves said it was “ a rapid, unscheduled dissembly”. It was not meant to blow up, nor did they do it intentionally because of a stage separation issue. He pushed the launch to be on 4/20 because he is manchild troll and the stunt blew up in his face.

Not sure if you watched the live coverage of the control room but Musk was very much not happy (and not cheering).

It is all spin to make this seem like less of the failure it was.

The environment is secondary compared to space travel. The quicker everyone realises this the faster we can progress
Haha, that is like saying your house is secondary to your bicycle.

This is the only planet suitable for mass human habitation that we will have access to for centuries.

And even if we do eventually find another planet we can colonise, it won’t be us peasants going, unless it is to work in indentured servitude.

When do we go to Mars..that'll be fun
Just send Musk and his pal Tucker

Im sure I heard one of the rocket guys say in an interview t’other day that it might blow up, it would be desirable if it didn’t but if it did it wasn’t unexpected.

Shame mr musk wasn’t on board.

That’s the hedging they always do ahead of tests.

A mate of mine works for the ESA as a research analyst and immediately texted me with nothing but laughing emojis when it blew up. Followed with even more quoting the SpaceX tweets.

Everyone knew what Musk was doing and that an explosion was not planned.

But SpaceX will of course now act as if it was all expected and this was a great success. It is what his companies do. The same reason I know on the call after Tesla’s next earnings release he’ll pinky-promise Full Self-Driving in 12 months for the 15th time.

Tesla sales/income down 20% apparently. That’s a pity. Maybe Elon can sell seats n his next launch. I know one guy who deserves a seat…..
