They're having a street party here and an event on the village fields, I'll be at both and my young kids, whist not having it in their diaries as the best thing to ever happen I'm sure, are somewhat excited to see what it is all about. They can't believe I've never seen a coronation myself either.

Yet I fear the op may be right, so many can't connect to the monarchy, or to Charles as a person, that it could be a catalyst for change. There's a lot of unhappiness brewing under the surface in our country, much of it justified thanks to some horrendous political shenanigans but also this wave of people seemingly needing a cause and wanting to be heard regardless of what it is and what the collateral damage is, looking for a way to step up to the next level and the monarchy could be that unifying hated symbol for many.

Although, I've always assumed that the royals probably bring in as much tourist money as they cost us, maybe more, so maybe national pride may swell ironically when we see all those foreign types going crazy over it all.

Not many outside of England and NI care really, with the exception of Americans.

400000 people to get a coronation medal for simply doing their jobs. This fucking country is a joke.Emergency workers and Police included.The ones who actually work and keep the country solvent are overlooked in favour of probably a load of civil servants and council staff who do Jack shit and are still working from home

Are you jealous? With that many being handed out, you only need to wait a bit for one to pop up on ebay.

Where does it say anything about council workers getting medals?

Yes most are still working from home although probably have to go in at least once a week.

Why not put in application and collect your gold plated pension and above market rate salary for doing "jack shit", even if you are already retired, it's not like you will ever be expected to do any work, might not even have to log on to work computer more than once a month.

Just as long as it doesn’t allude to wealth or social standing. That would be a most egregious PR gaff.
 
Each to their own and all that. I love an excuse for a party and I am proud to be British (most of the time)

We do this stuff well and put on a show. There's always people having a dig.... yes we colonised places etc. But there's not many countries that don't have some sort of shady past. We don't kick off at Norway for the Vikings do we?

People have forgiven Germany for the Nazis but everyone still digs us out. Quite a lot of commonwealth countries still stick with us too which says a lot. They're all free to leave...

I certainly agree that it all looks quite impressive. Whilst over in Copenhagen for our away match, I went to watch the changing of the guard at the royal palace. The routine & precision by the guards was very impressive.
However, it's always at the back of mind, can't these troops be doing something more constructive, like helping with the logistics of humanitarian aid, for example?

Jealous lol? Awards go to civil servants, I know at least three who log on at 8am and two of those do the school run and the other goes back to bed.if these wankers had to work for a living they would die of shock
