It always takes many months to crown a monarch in these modern times.

The medievals generally did it much more quickly. This demonstrates that whole layers of ceremony and complexity have been tacked on in relatively recent times. Bear in mind, the medievals had to stitch every single item of costume by hand, and there were no phones or emails back then. The only way to post an invitation was to send a guy on a horse.
