How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

Okay we got beat, we lost but we are the better team, we are smarter, wiser. We need that safe space where we can collectively agree that a huge injustice has been forced upon us.

The bluemoon brexit thread folks:-)

in your imagination of course

I think much depends on who wins the Tory Civil War after the GE.

If the sane Tories win, I'd not be surprised if they moved to a pro-EU position, because they are pragmatists. Winning is more important than consistency or principles.

If the nutters (e.g. Braverman and her ilk) win, then the Tories will almost certainly be doomed to futile obscurity for a generation. But they will command the loyalty of the declining band of Brexit obsessives who hate foreigners and wonder why the cotton mills closed down.

Rather than release these papers better to work them into the 6 part comedy series they deserve to be - Fawlty Towers needs to be knocked off its perch and the ramblings of Francois and JRM promise to be hilarious

Have any prominent leavers on here admitted their regret at voting for Brexit? It still amazes me how many stick their head in the sand or are just so stubborn to not admit it’s made all our lives worse (except for those select few at the top who have made millions off it)

Maybe the answer to the question 'when will this thread have run it's course' is when the FPBE cult takes it head out of it's arse and moves on from 2016.
That's like Churchill saying in 1940 that Britain should move on from September 1939.

Are you one of the few who doesn't think 2016 was a mistake?

There should be someway of holding them to account. I've had a few apologies via pm but I replied to all saying they were meaningless unless posted on this thread for all to see.

I thought that was from the Brentford thread.

for some people Dunkirk remains a great victory and a tactical withdrawal masterpiece

foreign fishermen will be happy

I think the British fishing industry was sound in their unanimous outlook on leaving the EU (was it 95%?) and I find the snide laughing at them by those upset by the vote to Leave winning to be cheap.

They’d been fucked over since the 80s by the EU. It’s not their fault they’ve also been betrayed by successive British govts in handling atrocious outcomes of leaving the EU since the vote to Leave came through.

Yet they’re spoken about as being Brexidiots, when they aren’t.

It’s not about pointing and mocking them for me, it’s about honesty and what can make this country better in the future and for that we need leavers to admit Brexit has been a total fuck up. I think most, even the most vocal leavers, know deep down we are better off back in the EU.

I agree. It's all about brexiteers having the humility and decency to admit what they did, then we can collectively and benevolently forgive them so we can all move on together. Remain voters have always been more humble and shown more humility and humanity, quietly knowing they were right all along - perhaps too quiet is the only criticism.

I benevolently and humbly forgive you.

Yes, @blueinsa has, much to his credit. Takes a lot for someone to do that. Much respect.

If you take away his vote as well as all the leave voters that have died and have a second referendum remain would win easily - and that's before we even start to consider those who have since realised they were wrong / changed their minds.

So the gvmt will relax the rules on overseas workers employed on the boats! That’s only half the issue. My wife’s family in Cornwall can’t find any locals willing to work in the fish/ shellfish processing unit they run. No suprise coz it’s filthy hard work in freezing conditions. It used to be staffed with Polish labour who were brilliant and loyal, returning year after year.
The UK has a tiny fishing fleet. This is yet another political flag wave.
Maybe the gvmt could also comment on the paperwork which has become a full time job for two people.

I suppose the only way we can replace cheap polish labour is to look outside the EU to some other impoverished country so we can leverage the pay differential between our countries in the same way. I suppose some parts of Africa and Asia might have places where we can get people from, pay them a pittance and it will be rock star wages back home, but no where near as convenient as Eastern Europe.

Saying it was forced upon us isn’t fair or accurate. It was more akin to a fraud than a robbery where the victims were cynically duped by something they saw written in the side of a bus.
