There must be massive things happening behind the scenes in terms of transfers. If we are losing all the reported players, then they will need replacing obviously. We also needed a few extra squad players in general so they will still need to be brought back in too.

Staying

GK
Ederson, Ortega, Carson

Defenders
Ake, Stones, Dias, Lewis, Akanji

Midfielders
Rodri, KDB, Foden, Grealish, McAtee, Phillips (?)

Forwards
Haaland, Alvarez.

That leaves 16 players- 3 club trained, 4 association trained and 9 others.

Even if Gundogan, Bernardo, Mahrez all stay plus both Kovacic and Gvardiol join we have space for 3 more.

IMO both yes and no . . Though 99% yes.
I agree with everything you say except the suggestion that Stones & Akanji can do what Walker can do.

Yes, Pep has played both Stones and Akanji at RB but never to do the job that Walker did. They’re both better than Walker at stepping into midfield in possession phases, and they’ve been played at RB - not ‘over Walker’ as such but when that has been tactically appropriate to employ their particular talents. Fact is that neither of them can ever do what Walker does because they’ll never have his speed. When a fast as fuck RB has been required Pep has never looked beyond Walker.
My concern in this is that Walkers blistering pace has regularly nullified the threat posed by very fast left wingers, wingers fast enough to leave Stones and Akanji in their dust trail.
If Walker does go then, while Stones et al can fill his spot by playing as excellent RB’s with ability to transition into midfield roles with panache, I hope we get a blisteringly fast replacement in asap because IMO there’ll be times that we need one.

Agreed. For clarity, I didn't (and wasn't suggesting) that Stones/Akanji can do what Walker can - I'm not sure any full back in world football can.

Youve 3 less defenders there than we started last season with

Everyone who knows anything knows that Barcelona didn't bid for him last summer, PSG did.

The fact Romano doesn't know that just tells me he's not clued up about this deal.
One doesn't have to be a Navajo code breaker to realize Romano is anti City. Read what he says and how he goes about it and its obvious...fuck him...

It’s looking like a strange window for us. Laporte looks like he’s off, Cancelo won’t be back. Palmer is likely to be loaned off as is Gomez. After that there’s huge doubts about Gundogan, Mahrez and especially Bernardo. It also looks like the latter 3 don’t know their own future at yet. Added to that there’s question marks over Walker’s future.

Means that up to 7 of the 23 man squad including 3 of the 13 that featured against Inter could be off. That’s an awful lot of turnover.

What’s more there’s only concrete links with 2 players in Kovacic and Gvardiol.

Maybe Pep wants an even smaller squad for next season.

We're not going replace every player that leaves.
