No Jimmy Anderson taking the new ball says he is not fully fit and are we carrying him?
very big morning ahead and let's hope for a bit of cloud cover and a bit of nip from the wicket

And with that, folks - England coach and team in lock-step determination to entertain, and understanding that losing a game of sport you’re trying your damndest to win is not the worst thing in the world - … let’s turn our attention to Malta, where Gareth Southgate’s England - another team moulded in their coach’s image - will huff and puff their way to 90 minutes of getting-the-job done.

Considering what this team has achieved with Bazzball they've earned the right to make such bold moves as they did with declaration, success of bazzball is due to it's sheer commitment to positive cricket and defying the conventional approach to the game

Not sure which the most bizarre. The declaration or that approaching mid summers day under a cloudless sky you lose 6 overs due to 'playing conditions'.

I think I've had enough football. I feel gorged on it. Holiday from football for… oh, at least two or three weeks.
Really pleased, actually, that the Ashes are here. Just the ticket. Will not be following this meaningless-competition-pulled-out-of-UEFA's-arse called the national league or something.

Love that declaration. What it lost in not taking an early wicket is made up showing the Aussies that we mean business and are here to mix it. Brave, different, love it
Certainly entertaining but as a cricket fan from a young age, I quite liked it when Boycott and Tavare were opening the bat and England would be 16 without loss after 13 overs!

Hated Tavare. Went to Old Trafford as a kid with my grandfather in about 1983 to see them play Kent. The nets were on out of the ground before the game. He sent me over when hed finished batting to get him in my autograph book. He said 'fuck off would you boy, Im warming up'. A Tuesday morning in the county championship like. Even at that young age I said why dont you fuck off and take your stupid tache with you, wanker

We need to take at least 2 wickets this morning or we won’t be batting till tomorrow teatime at the earliest

kinnell - what a catch

That is quite something. I didn't pick it up until I saw it in slow motion, but he catches it one handed ! Leaps like a salmon, too. Yes, hats off.
Who was it though, a few years back, who reached back, batted the ball from beyond the boundary with one hand while keeping both feet inside the rope, and then dived forward to take it within the boundary? I think for sheer quick thinking that's the best distance catch I've ever seen. Until I saw it I didn't even realise it was within the laws of the game. Wasn't it an England player, in fact?
