Declan Rice

This makes no sense to me. Would cost around 100m (potentially Phillips + cash) and wouldn’t strengthen us particularly IMO. Sure he’s a good player, but don’t see the need for him at all.

Not good enough to play further up the pitch as one of the no 8s, so I’d assume he would play as one of the 2 DMs in the 3-2 defensive shape. We already have Rodri, Stones, Phillips, Kovacic, Rico, Gomez and potentially Perrone/Gvardiol to play in front of the back 3. Don’t think we’d be interested if he wasn’t English
I'm thinking that it'd be better to spend big on wide players so that both Foden and Grealish can come into the middle. Foden because he can score and feed the strikers. Grealish because he can't be dispossessed very easily.

OUTIN
Laporte + GomesGvardiol
Gundogan1 winger (cos Foden's at CM)
Bernardo1 winger (cos Grealish's at CM)
Kovacic (extra player for depth)

If Rice comes surely it would have to be to replace Phillips and even then it's a massive overspend for a fringe player. But fuckit - if we can afford it then why not.

Well we know ourselves with Jorginho, Sanchez, maguire (thank god) players can change their minds. Just feel rice has been totally convinced to join arsenal. They are ambitious, building a brilliant squad and keeps him close to home. Just seems to make too much sense
When I read these three names,I don't think we could have had the year we had with them being in the team. Luck plays a big part in transfers.(In hindsight)

City could get two fairly good more fitting mids for the price of one Rice. Veiga and Guler would both together cost less if he does decide to go to Arsenal. You can even add a Williams in there and you have three top talents for the price.

I have faith in Phillips to turn it around.

Crikey - I don’t agree with any of that (Other than the other two would cost less).

Rice is English. Rice is mentally as well as ability wise, a perfect City player. Rice is at the top of his game. There’s three reasons why Rice is more expensive.
also - why have you faith in something you’ve no evidence of? Phillips did nothing before he came to us and certainly hasn’t since.
all that said - he’s going to arsenal…….
