Do you support the RMT?

Why would anyone use Trainline and pay commission?
Must admit I do too.
The app is pretty well designed and tickets are quickly added to my wallet.

I didn't know there were other options tbf but I'll try trainsplit above.

I have a question though: I've recently purchased a family railcard but I bought this at my local train station which means I can only use it a ticket offices (not online).

Thought it was odd at the time not being able to use it online. I guess if my local train station closes, that's pretty much that railcard rendered useless?

You can buy digital versions of railcards which can be used to purchase tickets online via a pin or barcode scan.

Yeah - I'd only recently purchased a paper one though (and I don't believe this can be changed).

This only happened as I was at my local station trying to find a way to get to London (when the trains were really knackered one weekend). Couldn't find a route online so was thinking of driving :(

I ended up speaking to the guy in the ticket office who eventually found a route out (via change at Sheffield) and mentioned with a family railcard the ticket I was about to purchase (for me and my boy) would be cheaper.

As much as I love apps and technology there are times when you really need to speak to a human as 'the komputa' fails.
This route didn't exist on the app (trainline) I was using.

I've used trainline to get timings and prices then gone to the ticket office and they have been considerably more expensive. On a few occasions they matched the trainline price after a piss around on their behalf or just said buy the cheaper ticket online. If you are a tourist and rock up at the airport ticket counter you will get your pants pulled down .

You can use the rail card on trainline. Just add it to your account. And you will be asked to show it when travelling. I've Done it for years

It doesn’t mean you can only use it at a ticket office. You can buy any or all your tickets at the ticket office or online and have them as digital tickets or paper tickets that you collect at the station (or have posted to you if you want to pay an extra quid). When selecting your journeys just make sure you select your railcard from the drop down menu and your ticket prices will be reduced, as they should be. All you are then required to do is make sure you have the railcard on you whenever you travel.

Probably because they have paid ( presumably) to be the first hit that comes up on search engines when you type in anything remotely connected to train travel.

Seems like I was given misinformation in that case.
Tbh, I don't use the family railcard often (in fact I've only used it once when I purchased these tickets for London some time ago).

Good news though - thanks for the clarification!!

Not suggesting you can or do use anything else. Just making an observation, and a lamentable one.
We're hamstrung by what we can and can't do under strike laws.

We wanted to do a revenue ban so members wouldn't lose out but legislation makes that illegal.

The only thing we can do is withdraw our labour and disrupt that way.

Will they be closing all of the ticket offices and putting even more people on the exits at terminals?

There isn't even a ticket machine at stations like Ashburys, if you are forced to buy online and show a QR code what happens if your phone runs out of charge or gets nicked?

We as a society are moving too fast we need to slow the fuck down.
